Mary K, I hope you come back. I understand your "attitude".....I have it too. I can't stop talking about this situation, I can't stop thinking about it...and I certainly can't stop myself from getting the latest info regarding what is going on. I have a responsibility to my animals, my clients animals (to an extent...I am a pet sitter)...as I'm sure we all feel that we do. The last thing that these people need who have suffered personal loss is a fricken commercial! That is the real 'attitude.' They don't need a commercial. They need their family members back...and they are not going to get that. That's the bottom line. When someone loses a human family member to a tragedy such as a malfunctioning car accident, or through a drunk driver...we don't go up to those people right away and say 'I have a 100% guaranteed non-malfunctioning car for you here,' or 'I have liquor here guaranteed not to make people drunk so they can go right out and drive right after drinking.' We just don't do that.

Recall Related Information / General Recall Discussion / Re: Melamine in Corn Gluten from China

My husband has taken many business trips to China in the past, and has had to stay there for extended periods of time during those trips. He said the businesses are not run anywhere near what we have come to be familiar with here in the US. There are no board of directors, or chains of command like here. It is more like government run in each company. The ingredients these companies are using are grown all over the country. Each of these companies have access to all these same grains from the same growers he said. What we have to figure out is where/who amoung their educated leaders involved in these companies found the technology to boost the nitrogen levels in the grain. Maybe this is the reason they are denying visas to the FDA. Maybe they don't want the scientist or whoever responsible for ulitilizing this technology to be exposed. I think there is a lot more lying underneath the surface of this thing that will blow our minds even more than we can stand. Personally, whatever 'it' is...I don't think I'll be able to handle it.

You know, I am pretty sure the media are not reporting it enough because they don't want to be accused of over-reporting, or giving equal reporting when in comparison to human-related tragedies. To which I say Bull! At the very least this ongoing tragedy is way more important than Anna Nicole Smith!

I agree...this kinda stuff is just too much! By now, whether we are from NY, Chicago or Phoenix, we are all a little more cynical AND too sophisticated to actually buy into this sort of statement. It means nothing, nothing...nothing.

Dry and Wet Foods / Fromm / Re: Fromm?

Thank you all for the feedback on Fromm. I had purchased 2 bags of their dry cat food, but have not opened it yet as I have still a little of my cats' old bag, which was not recalled, nor does it have the suspected ingredients in it (so far), but am now unwilling to purchase any more of that brand. I have however, become increasingly worried to open these new bags as new info and recalls have been coming in about other premium-type brands. However, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place if it wasn't produced the way it is. To be honest, I thought both the bagged and canned were produced in this human-food Chinese plant. These posts have put my mind at ease as I see they are truly staying on top of their production quality control.

Dry and Wet Foods / General Discussion about Dry and Wet Packaged Foods / Re: Online pet food ordering

I made 2 large orders right after the first recall to 2 separate online places one day apart. The first order was from Evangers direct from the company, and got my whole order within a week...very impressed. The second was from Waggintails Pet Essentials, where I got my Merricks, Fromme, and The Worlds Best cat litter. I'm still waiting for that oder to be completed. I have so far received 2 partial shipments from them them. Fortunately, the things I needed first came first. They also offered many discounted items, which I took advantage of. They also sent me an email apologizing for the delay, and asked if I wanted to continue waiting or cancel the remaining order. I figured that many of these places are probably swamped due to the fact that people all over are scrambling to find new food sources for their animals, so I am giving them the benefit of the doubt and waiting for the rest of the order. Plus I was impressed that they sent me a personal email apologizing. This customer service is the very thing that I look for from companies, and know I won't get from the oversized corporations. In spite of these delays, I probably will order from them again. Also, they offer an automatic shipment program.

Dry and Wet Foods / Merrick / Re: Merrick Canned Cat Food

Hi All, I have reservations about Merrick too, but I have to admit that the food and treats I got for my dogs are pretty awesome. The canned food I got for them is the Smothered Comfort homestyle which when you open the can looks and smells like homemade chicken/vegetable stew for people, which is mostly white thigh meat (it states this on the can too). I also got them Rocky Mountain Rainbows homestyle Trout with veggies/fruit, which they also love. I got the Beef Filet Squares treats, which is like a jerky, and also the Phat Flossies spiral tendon chews for them. Both of these the dogs love. My thinking is that if anything is coming from that rendering plant, it might be these Filet treats. BTW, the address on the cans/Flossies is different from the ones on the Filet Squares treats. The Filets come from Hereford, TX, and the others from Amarillo. Also, if I can't get my cats to like more of the Evangers varieties other than the mackerel and seafood/caviar I mentioned on the Evangers forum, then I might try some of these Merricks cat flavors some of you have mentioned here.

Dry and Wet Foods / Evangers / Re: Evangers Canned Cat Food
|

Hi All, I have been away from here for a few days, but am back. I purchased several dog/cat canned varieties from Evangers right after the recall. My kids have been eating it for a couple of weeks now. The dogs love all of their flavors, and I have no problems to report on that. The cats are a different story however. I bought the Whole Mackerel w/gravy, the Seafood Dinner, the Seafood and Caviar Dinner, and the Holistic Pheasant Dinner. All 3 cats hate the pheasant, and I see that is does contain many ingredients that cats should not have after all, and I will be giving that one to the dogs as it's safe for them. They don't like the Seafood much either, but the ingredient list is good so I entice them to eat it with Beechnut baby food stage 1 chicken or turkey. They like the seafood/caviar, but like it better with added baby food meat. The one that they LOVE is the Whole Mackerel. 2 of them gobble it up within minutes. The 3rd one will lick up all the gravy and come back later to eat the fish...if she doesn't make it back in time, the male cat will do it for her. I will be ordering many more cases of this one. A comment on the baby food: I choose Beechnut for 2 reasons; one that they use only the meat and added broth...Gerber adds cornstarch to theirs. The second reason is that Gerber was just swallowed up by Nestle. I am sick to death of these huge conglomerates swallowing up everyone, and in my opinion losing quality control at the same time. OK...I hope this is of some help to someone.
