That's interesting - I did a quick search and came up with the same thing.  Odd that Breeder's Choice uses avacado oil in their Avoderm food

I had taken a look at Chicken Soup canned for cats.  I wondered about a few of the other 'instant' ingredients in their list - i.e. dried skim milk, cranberry powder,  parsley flake.

Yes - I actually should have said 'woody' not wood.  My point really was that it is a cheap filler and that there are better choices.

Hi - in your case with your cat having kidney issues, your cat would want to be on the lower protein food. However, from the reading i've been doing most experts seem to say that higher levels of protein are better.  My cats have been eating Royal Canine weight control - it has protein of 38.5 % (42.1 if you look convert to dry matter).  I had also tried their vet diabetic food to help my cats loose weight - it is at 44 % and 48 % if you look at dry matter.  However, due to my obvious concerns about corn gluten in these products I've been evaluating other products.  I've currently moved my cats to 50 % canned (Felidae, Wellness) because, as you mention, most kibble is in the 30's for protein.  There are a few exceptions - CORE, EVO - however, those are so high in calories that I can't put my cats on those either.   I've done reading from MANY sources and there really seems to be an overwhelming concensus that canned is better for cats health, but we frequenly choose dry for convenience sake.  There is a web page that does an excellent job of summarizing the research in this area:

140  Dry and Wet Foods / Orijen / Re: Anyone use Orijen? on: April 21, 2007, 03:01:16 PM
Thanks Sharon - my cats are about 1/2 canned, 1/2 dry now.  I eventually want to move them over to more canned as well.

Is the kibble size pretty small?

Anyone know how many calories are in a cup of this?  I had emailed the company but they never responded.  I know the other high protein ones (EVO, CORE) are over 500 calories in a cup - too much for my boys.

Cellulose is wood fiber - not a good filler.  I have an email from Blue saying they did get rid of the Menadione last year - I told them they might have got better PR if they updated their web page sooner

I had looked at this one -but the protein is too low and carbs too high.  Decided against it.
144  Dry and Wet Foods / Felidae / Re: Felidae Canned on: April 20, 2007, 09:50:46 PM
We've been trying the Felidae canned just since Sunday.  Have only been feeding it for dinner to my three cats - one can split between the three of them.   One of my cats would barely touch the first three cans I purchased.  I went back and purchased three more just because the label analysis on this one is so good - I didn't want to give up too early.  Well, the next few cans are completly different - more broth, darker in color.  The cats gobble it up.  I mentioned to someone else on itchmo and they noticed the same thing.  The other odd thing - the first cans sell by date was August 2007, the second set is 2009!!  So, makes you wonder how old the other cans were!

I'm still not 100 % sure on this one.  I noticed one of the cats having problems chewing some of it tonight .  I picked up the bit he was chewing on.  Could tell it was meat but it was like the tough part of chicken if you know what I mean.  I didn't let him eat it.  In one of the other cats bowls was a small bit of bone.

So, plan on continuing a bit longer - but if quality isn't good will stop.  I don't find the consistency a problem  - the later cans were a bit softer, but not that bad.

I got to wonder - someplace someone said they think the canned is done by Evanger's.  And I think I read about inconsistency with their product too.
