Is the server located in the area that was hit with that major ice storm on the 26th of January? That was the same day that Itchmo went down. Many are still without power in that area.

What specific threads are you wondering about?

Welcome!

It would be nice to have a summary outline of events located all in one place so as to make the task easier in composing a written report to friends in Canada and the States that need to be informed about this tragedy.  The threads are very lengthy now and it is hard to get all of the facts right. I think that a one to one spreading the word can go a long ways. During the 2007 recalls, I spoke to many shoppers in the aisles of stores that were unaware of many things.

I was just wondering what others thought of the information given at that time by the company officials, since the current postings on the boards by these same company officials have left many questioning the 'facts' that were posted.

39  Human Food Recalls & Other Issues / Human Food Recalls / Re: Peanut Corp. of America knowingly shipped salmonella-laced products on: February 07, 2009, 10:14:51 PM
This is very very disturbing information - that a company continued to ship out, sell and ditribute a product that tests show was contaminated with salmonella and then "doctor" a report later as the second test (which they did not wait for) presumably confirmed the contamination.

The news item also said that lawmakers were scheduled to meet to devise more stringent laws about this sort of thing.

A news broadcast that I heard indicated that criminal charges may be even brought against PCA for doing this.

Only this time it is the human food chain that is affected instead of our beloved pets food.
Frosty, there are pet food recalls because of the peanut "paste" contamination recall.  Several makers of dog treats use the peanut paste in their ingredients.  It's best to read the labels of the dog treats to see if any peanut butter or flavors are ingredients.  I'll dig up the recall notices on the recalled dog treats and post later.

The quote above about pet foods was in relation to the 2007 Menu Foods debacle. The point I was trying to make is that THIS recall is getting the attention of government officials because it is mainly human food this time around and not just pet food.

The FDA links that I posted above do list the many pet foods that are also recalled because of the peanut paste that they contain.

Federal investigators on Friday said the Lynchburg, Va.-based company knowingly shipped salmonella-laced products from its Blakely, Ga., plant after tests showed the products were contaminated. Federal law forbids producing or shipping foods under conditions that could make it harmful to consumers' health. . .The company has denied any wrongdoing, but said it is investigating.

Before the scandal, Peanut Corp. was a little-known but ambitious company that began in the 1970s as a family catering operation.

Until this far reaching peanut recall, most every one had never heard of PCA. But this recall has expanded much like the pet foods recall of 2007 when one small company that no one had heard of got caught trying to do things on the 'cheap' without regards to health issues.  Only this time it is the human food chain that is affected instead of our beloved pets food.

Here are 3 sites to get updated information from as this  peanut butter recall  keeps expanding to more affected products:

China bans pork imports from Ireland

Article posted December 09, 2008 - 12:29 PM
BEIJING — China has banned all imports of pork from Ireland after some of the meat was found to be contaminated with high levels of a chemical.

China's quality watchdog will recall Irish pork products imported since Sept. 1, a notice on its Web site said Monday. Ireland has recalled all its pork products produced after that date.

China imported 2,047 tons of pork products from Ireland since the beginning of September, according to a notice on the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The Irish government announced Saturday that some Irish pork contained illegal levels of dioxin chemicals and issued an international warning not to consume Irish pork products.

Dioxins, which are naturally occurring and can enter an animal's system through its food or environment, accumulate in the pig's fat — and, if ingested by humans in sufficient volume, have been linked to an increased risk of cancer.

Officials say the contamination source was a single animal-food maker in southeast Ireland that supplied feed to nine Irish pig farms.

The European Union and China recently signed an agreement to improve the way food safety alerts are shared between the two trading partners, after several high-profile recalls involving Chinese-made dairy products and pet food. - AP
