796  Other Pet Topics / Miscellaneous Pet Topics / Re: Eek - A Flea! on: October 12, 2008, 11:24:18 AM
There are natural products that can be used to deter fleas that are much safer than the normal prescribed products. Supplementing with garlic is often of great help. Sprays or shampoos containing neem oil are also effective in repeling fleas.
797  Pet Products and Resources (NOT foods) / Pet Treats / Re: Suggestions for treats? on: October 12, 2008, 09:40:23 AM
I only use freeze dried treats. Stella & Chewey's, Bravo, and Halo's are the brands that I have used. I believe Aunt Jeni's make treats for cats and dogs also, but I have not tried them.

Wow wishaven! That is amazing that the FDA actually acted so promptly. Unfortunately this is not the case in most instances. Glad you were able to help get the product pulled from the stores so quickly.
799  Dry and Wet Foods / Kumpi / Re: KumpiKat on: October 11, 2008, 10:53:23 PM
I tried Kumpikat over a year ago and my two did not do well on this food. I have not had the problems with  other kibble that my cats experienced eating this food.
800  Dogs / Dog Food Recipes / Re: Taurine on: October 11, 2008, 08:35:07 PM
Sorry but I have never heard of renal failure being caused by a lack of taurine although a diet deficient in taurine can cause blindness and/or heart problems.
801  Dry and Wet Foods / Wellness & Old Mother Hubbard / Re: Strictly Wellness on: October 11, 2008, 08:10:35 PM
That is odd that kitty will only eat in the Am and not at nite. Someone I know has a kitty that is the exact opposite. I wonder if that kitty might have IBD also. I know that some cats do well on the grain free canned Wellness formulas. With my IBD cat I have to feed raw as it is the only food he can tolerate.
802  Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / Re: Allergies on: October 11, 2008, 07:37:29 PM
Dealing with a food allergy can be a tough thing as both Geff and I know. Mainly just have to experiment with various foods and keep a diary as to how kitty does with each food. Finding the offending food item can be a challenge and sometimes a chicken and rice based food is not always the answer.
803  Dry and Wet Foods / Purina Pet Foods / Re: Fancy Feast? on: October 11, 2008, 07:17:50 PM
Funny thing about Fancy Feast is once you feed it to your cats for any length of time most have a problem getting the cat to eat any other canned food. I personally refer to it as Kitty Krack.  Tongue
804  Dry and Wet Foods / Fromm / Re: Fromm? on: October 11, 2008, 07:13:18 PM
Didn't have much luck with the canned varieties but have used the grain free  feline Surf & Turf for quite a few months now and am very happy how well both are doing on the food.

GreyGhost,  Do you have a link for this product that will give more detailed info?
806  Dry and Wet Foods / Orijen / Re: Anyone use Orijen? on: October 11, 2008, 06:28:14 PM
I tried the Orijen some time ago and my cats seem to enjoy it. Unfortunately it became too costly for me as I had to order it online. My local feed store is getting the Orijen in some time in November and I look forward to adding it as part of their rotation of foods.
807  Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / Re: Rufus on: October 11, 2008, 04:37:22 PM
I am very sorry to hear this Peg. Hoping the vet can get this figured out and get the little guy on track.  Kiss
808  Miscellaneous / General chit chat / Re: it's really gotten quiet here lately........... on: October 11, 2008, 03:09:33 PM
Hopefully it will not be quiet here any longer. I am anxious to talk with other pet parents about everything and anything that concerns them. Looking forward to this being a great learning experience for all who wish to participate!
809  Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / Re: Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome on: October 11, 2008, 09:50:28 AM
I would like to add to this by saying that many times food allegies can also be a major factor in causing feline hyperthesia.
810  Dry and Wet Foods / General Discussion about Dry and Wet Packaged Foods / Re: Eukanuba Dry Dog Food on: October 11, 2008, 09:35:39 AM
Eukanuba is filled with an unnecessarily large amount of corn and other grains. It also contains by-products. IMO ther are much better foods available for your dogs than this one.
