781  Cats / Cat Nutrition / Re: Raw and Dry?? on: October 14, 2008, 10:06:20 PM
I have read that for dogs it takes kibble between 9-12 hours to digest, where raw only takes between 3-4 hours. So if raw is fed at the same time as kibble, it will take the animal longer to digest the raw. Not sure if the same applies to cats. http://www.rawdietforpets.com/FAQ.htm#Mix

Little Big Cat is a site that is written by Jean Hofve DVM. On this site you can find many articles written by her in the Free Article Library. You can find a few recipes for both cats and dogs here. http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?action=library&act=show&item=014

I have one kitty that eats raw only. Ocassionally I neglect to pick up the kibble bowl after my other two kittes have eaten and he manages to sneak a few pieces of kibble. It does not seem to bother him but kibble will mess up his stomach. To be on the safe side I would space it out by a few hours between feedings. I would not feed raw and kibble at the same time.

Judge Approves $24 Million Settlement In Pet Food Case.                                       "A judge has approved a $24 million settlement for owners of dogs and cats who were sickened or died after eating pet food containing a chemical contaminant.
U.S. District Judge Noel Hillman on Tuesday accepted the deal, calling it "fair, reasonable and adequate."

"The ruling clears the way for U.S. pet owners with claims to start receiving checks next year. A Canadian judge has scheduled a hearing for Nov. 3 to determine whether the settlement can also apply in that nation."

"Under the deal, pet owners have until Nov. 24 to file claims."                                 http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/081014/nj_pet_food_recalls.html?.v=1

Tainted Pet Food Suit Settled For $24 Million. "Menu Foods, other pet food makers and retailers involved in last year's massive pet food recall will set up a $24 million cash fund to compensate pet owners, according to a proposed settlement filed Thursday in federal court. The fund is expected to compensate thousands of pet owners in the U.S. and Canada who bought recalled pet foods made by Menu and 11 others. The products had a contaminated ingredient from China that sickened dogs and cats."                                            http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/2008-05-22-petfood-lawsuit-settled_N.htm

786  Dry and Wet Foods / California Natural / Re: Jan08/Anyone feeding CN?? on: October 13, 2008, 11:25:45 PM
Each pet whether it be a cat or a dog will react differently to any given food. Unfortunately Geffs kitty seems to have had many issues with various foods or ingredients that are found in many foods. I have fed CN to my cats in the past but now I am feeding grain free which I believe has helped them immensely.
787  Dry and Wet Foods / Nutro / Re: Any experiences with Nutro DRY DOG products to share? on: October 13, 2008, 10:07:41 PM
Anyone who might be feeding Nutro products to their pets may want to check out all the complaints about the food that have been filed at Consumer Affairs.          http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/nutro.html

789  Pet Products and Resources (NOT foods) / Pet Treats / Re: Kong toys and treats on: October 13, 2008, 07:30:48 PM
I recently saw that Kong is now making organic toys for cats but was very disappointed when I saw that they were made in China. Very difficult to find quality toys, or anything for that matter, that is not made in China.  Angry
790  Pet Products and Resources (NOT foods) / Vitamins and other supplements / Re: Multivitamins on: October 13, 2008, 05:24:56 PM
I think the most important things you can use to supplement your pets food, other than a multi-vitamin mineral supplement, is probiotics and digestive enzymes. Digestive enzymes are especially important if feeding dry food only. One must also be careful of over supplementation if feeding home cooked or raw.
791  Other Pet Topics / Miscellaneous Pet Topics / Re: Itchmo Is Starting To Censor their Forums on: October 13, 2008, 08:20:39 AM
First of all, there are many people who belong to more than one forum, pet related or otherwise. Most people were visiting numerous pet related forums and/or blogs during the recalls of 2007 in a desperate search to find information along with some answers as to what was really killing our pets. Personally my quest has not ended. If someone is considered a "defector" for that quest than that is very sad. It is not uncommon for people in leadership roles to use coercive and deceptive techniques to rally people against what they deem to be a threat to the ideal, principal, or group they believe in or belong to. This in turn it causes others in that same group to become protective and defensive towards what they now believe is in harms way. I have some great friends at Itchmo. Unfortunatley some either chose to become mods, quit the forum or are now gone due to questionable circumstances. We Used to have a lot of fun together. So if visting other forums makes one a traitor/defector, than I guess I fit the description.
792  Dry and Wet Foods / Specific Brands of Dry or Wet Foods / Re: Taste Of The Wild on: October 12, 2008, 09:21:15 PM
I tried the TOTW Feline formula when it first came out. My cats were not that enthused about it. I do know of other people whose cats love it and have had no issues to date with this food.

794  Dry and Wet Foods / Pinnacle / Re: What about Pinnacle?? on: October 12, 2008, 03:24:27 PM
Pinnacle dry cat food is another one that is grain free although they do not advertise it as such. They prefer to refer to it as a "low carb" food. I have some friends who feed their dogs the Pinnacle canine formulas and they are happy with it.
795  Dry and Wet Foods / Nutro / Re: Nutro Natural Choice Indoor Adult Dry Cat Food on: October 12, 2008, 01:02:18 PM
Looks as if nothing much has changed where Nutro Dog food is concerned. Still have reports of illness continually posted at Consumer Affairs. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/nutro.html
