1  Recall Related Information / Recall News / Re: Pet food settlement checks on: June 08, 2011, 02:34:55 PM

If this info is accurate and the norm of what is being paid out for the pets who were made ill and/or perished due to the tainted food, all I can do is shake my head in disbelief and disgust.

What a slap in the face to the owners of these pets who deserve to be fully compensated and so much more for their pets pain and suffering.

Hello sherrylynne

Sorry, but I have never heard of this product before.  After looking at the products website it seems as though quite a few Holistic vets recommend it.

If you should decide to try it, please let us know how it works out for your pet.

Hope all is well with you and your critters!
4  Dry and Wet Foods / Canidae / Re: Best brand food: Canidae on: October 22, 2010, 07:26:45 AM

My cats would never eat it so I have no feedback to offer other than their refusal.

But out of curiousity I went to Consumer Affairs and found a recent post where a pet owner found a rusty nail in a bag of Canidae dog food.

And guess what? This pet owner is still feeding the food. I mean wth?Huh?

6  Other Pet Topics / Pet Memorials / My Beautiful Jinx Boy on: September 27, 2010, 09:12:18 AM

Jinx: September 7, 1997 - September 13. 2010

I adopted my beautiful boy as a baby from an older friend of the family 13 years ago. A pregnant cat had found her way into her garage and gave birth to 6 kittens. Two of the kittens were light beige in color with very unusual markings.

When  I went to see the kittens and I immediately fell in love with one of them, brought him home and we named him Jinx.

Little did I know that adorable tiny beige kitten would grow up to be a  beautiful, loving and very smart Siamese cat.

May God bless you and keep you close untill we meet again.

Always and Forever in my heart, my Jinxy boy.
7  Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) - Saddle Thrombosis on: September 27, 2010, 08:40:02 AM
Arterial Thromboembolism (ATE) is a complication of heart disease or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in cats that strikes without warning and is often times fatal. Age of occurrence for thromboembolism ranges from 1 to 20 years (mean, 7.7 years; median, 10.5 years) in one report. It is also more prevelant in males than females.

It happens when a blood clot or clots are released  from the heart and lodges somewhere in the cats body restricting blood flow.  Normally the clot will lodge in the hind quarters restricting blood flow to one or both of the back legs. Depending where the clot lodges itself it can also restrict blood flow to one or both of the front legs, but most commonly the back legs are affected. This is a devastating occurance for the cat as it happens quite suddenly and can be extremely painful.

There is no diagnostic testing other than ultrasound that would lead one to supect any clots in the heart. If a cat is suspected of having heart disease an ultrasound should be done.

The odds of the cat surviving and regaining the use of its legs is around 30%. Although many recover from this, the average life expectancy after recovery is less than one year.

Often times a cat owner will find its cat limping and assume it injured its paw somehow, which  is often time the case.  But if the cat loses complete control of any of its legs it should be rushed  to the hospital immediately and without hesitation. Time is of the essence it situations such as this.

8  Raw Foods / General Discussion about Raw Foods / Re: Questions for Raw Feeders on: September 07, 2010, 02:10:11 PM

Sorry ct,

With all I had been going thru lately I must have missed this.

As I think most knew, I had been feeding Jasper strictly commercial raw for quite some time, but he started to vomit regularly after eating it. With his intestinal issues I think the brand I used just had too much plant vegetation in it. Not a big selection of raw where I live.

I have never tried making my own even though I had purchased specific supplements to do so.  Wild Kitty now has prepackaged mixes for making your own raw food at home. Been tempted to try it.

I do know of people who rotate canned and raw. My Jasper ate much less when fed raw then he does now on  canned. He has also gained quite a bit of weight since the switch from raw to canned.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – August 29, 2010 – CINCINNATI  -- Procter & Gamble (P&G) is voluntarily recalling a small number of bags of its Iams Proactive Health Indoor Weight & Hairball Care dry cat food which may have been sold recently in one or two stores in Loveland, Colorado.

Tinker: April 1994 - August 24, 2010

My lil baby girl came to me in the late Spring of 1995. I had been spending the afternoon relaxing on the back porch, lazily enjoying a beautiful sun filled day.

All of a sudden from the corner of my eye I noticed this adorable little white kittie come walking thru the yard. She stopped when she saw me sitting there on the porch and gazed curiously upon me.  After watching me for a few moments she proceeded to the porch, slowly walked up the steps, came over to me and promptly placed herself directly in the center of my lap.

It was at that moment that I knew she was mine and she knew I was hers.

May God bless her and keep her close until we meet again.

Always & forever will she live in my heart, my lil girl Tink Tink.
12  Raw Foods / Feline's Pride / Re: Recall: Feline's Pride Natural Chicken Formula Cat Food on: July 02, 2010, 06:33:31 PM
"I believe Shelby and also know that the FDA isn’t some stellar organization either.   I’ll continue to feed Feline’s Pride without any hesitation until any of this is proven otherwise.  Please feel free to re-post on other cat sites as I’m seeing a lot of speculation and untruths already circulating around with accusations of poor testing procedures and quality control (and these same people feed crap like Nutro and Fancy Feast and think it's great food)."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LoL Perseus. I too would be more concerned about the efficiency of the FDA regarding the proper handling and transportation of the raw food they tested.

I see on some other forums that posters are already tearing Feline's Pride apart and yet no mention of the recent Iam's recall of canned cat food regarding the low thiamine levels. I'll bet many of "these same people" also think Iam's is "great food."

If anyone has had any experience with their pet foods please post about it here.

This Canadian produced food recently became available in my area and I picked up a bag of the Legacy Grain Free cat food food yesterday. So I'm anxious to see how my crew does on this food.
15  Dry and Wet Foods / Innova / Re: P&G aquires Natura Foods, including Innova evo on: May 13, 2010, 07:53:42 PM

I just wanted to let everyone know that I spoke with a local independent retailer this afternoon. According to her current sales rep of Natura products, P&G are normally very slow in incurring changes to any of their products. She was also told that the finalization of the buyout deal will also most likely take longer than was first reported.

Not sure if this was mentioned anywhere but supposedly the current owners of Natura are going to remain active with the company. So I guess time will tell if this information is correct.
