Kathy, my thoughts are with you.

There's now another venue for food testing....the article (link below) is new today....about the half-way point:
"In light of the new findings, toxicologists at UC Davis' California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System are stepping up their offer to test other, unrecalled foods to ensure all problems are found.

"There aren't that many labs that are doing this kind of testing right now. It's our obligation to follow up," said Bob Poppenga, a UC Davis professor of veterinary clinical toxicology.

The lab is encouraging veterinarians to contact it through its Web site, http://cahfs.ucdavis.edu/, to arrange testing of food eaten by pets hit with acute kidney failure."

While this is NOT A RECALL....I think, out of an abundance of caution, it should be posted here

ITCHMO has just issued an email safety alert...

"At this point, we believe that all corn gluten should be considered at risk for contamination..."

I know it wasn't PETA....it was in a news item recently in mainstream media, but I can't find it (1 1/4 million returns on Google!)
37  Recall Related Information / General Recall Discussion / HELP!!! Need to know WHO SAID "Animal testing NOT an option" on: April 19, 2007, 12:12:51 PM
I am working to force an official investigation of reports that a pet food company did and possibly continues to conduct tests of suspect food on dogs and cats.

I have seen and/or heard a respected veterninary scientist/investigator state "Animal testing of the suspect food is NOT AN OPTION".

Someone out there may remember reading that article or seeing the interview....

If you know who that was AND maybe could provide a link for me....please post or PM

Thanks

Hey Geff!
Don't give up. That's the trick, PERSISTENCE...and also NUMBERS: if more messages like this appear on his desk, more than likely they'll start covering this story.

So, get EVERYBODY you know to start bombarding this guy...and...to keep hounding him until they get a reply or stories start to appear.

Oh yah, the EVERYBODY doesn't need to be pet "owners"...just anybody who cares bout the issue.

Thanks so much for posting this......
My five guys get FF as their exclusive wet food......I've reduced the varieties with wheat gluten to one in five meals...I use FF w/out gluten for the other four. I have not seen - prior to this crisis nor now - any signs of health change.
But, you know, we are all dreading what may be around the corner....

Seems like this is "picking up steam"......

consumeraffairs.com in-depth coverage and interview with Jen Hoeflein who started Pets Need a Voice Too

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/04/pet_food_recall26.html

"The March is a direct response from people all over the country and Canada who felt an overwhelming need to speak in outrage...""The long-range objective is ...to make sure tainted ingredients never again make their way into the food supply."

Oh boy!!!!.......looks like I did an "oopsie!"

I meant my last post to go under the topic that Taz had started regarding the Marches and Keeping Our Dogs Safe.........I'm really not very computer savvy and I apologize for my blunder!..... Huh Sad

No prob!

Just in case anyone's reading this - not quite awake yet (Sunday AM syndrome) - here's what the buzz is all about:

"We are marching in memory of our pets that have lost their lives, we are marching in memory of those pets that are fighting for their lives, we march as pet owners, dog lovers, cat lovers and average citizens that are tired of the lowered safety standards for goods coming in to this country."

Check out their awesome site and get involved by marching and/or helping out!

PET FOOD INSTITUTE CONFERENCE IN CHICAGO APRIL 16-19

This has gone under everyone's radar....I just found it on the Internet

http://www.wattnet.com/petfoodforum/home.cfm?pg=4

Billed as:
"The premier event for the petfood industry, with exciting new sessions, networking opportunities and access to main players in the field"

Here's an opportunity for anybody who's been shocked, hurt, angered, betrayed.....and been left feeling powerless to DO SOMETHING.

Let's attend and give those main players some extra added-value surprises for their conference!

Noisy protest and candlelight vigils seem appropriate add-ons.

How 'bout it, Chicago?
