46  Dry and Wet Foods / Natural Balance / Re: Natural Balance Recall on: April 17, 2007, 07:07:13 PM
Sorry, I meant to say where is the rice protein oncentrate in the old list of ingredients? Wasn't this food supposed to be grain free?
47  Other Pet Topics / Miscellaneous Pet Topics / Re: Home Cooked 101 on: April 17, 2007, 07:02:39 PM
I've tried that, one would eat it and others not. But when I  minced it none would eat it. I wish they would eat home cooked.

What I would like to know is where is the rice concentrate in the list of ingredients of Venison &Green Pea cat food:

Ingredients (from natural balance website):
Peas, Venison, Venison Meal, Rice Protein Concentrate, Canola Oil, Flaxseed, Natural Flavor, Methionine, Choline Chloride, Inulin, Taurine, Natural Tocopherols, Zinc Proteinate, Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Manganese Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Zinc Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B-1), Vitamin A Supplement, Biotin, Potassium Iodide, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin (Vitamin B-2), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B-6), Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Manganous Oxide, Sodium Selenite, Vitamin D Supplement, Folic Acid (Vitamin B).

From omlynaturalpet.com store:
INGREDIENT LISTING:
Venison, Whole Dried Green Peas, Venison Meal, Canola Oil, Venison Liver, Natural Flavor, Phosphoric Acid, Choline Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Chloride, Kelp, DL Methionine, Salmon Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Lysine, Rosemary Extract, Dried Parsley, Taurine, Zinc Sulfate, Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin A Acetate, Riboflavin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Biotin, Vitamin C Supplement (Ascorbic Acid), Yucca Schidigera, Folic Acid, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (a source of Vitamin K activity), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Ethylene Dihydriodide, Sodium Selenite.

Why is Peas now first ingredient (different from the ingredeints elsewhere) and where is rice concentrate?
49  Dry and Wet Foods / Tiki / Re: Anybody try Tiki canned cat food? on: April 17, 2007, 03:34:34 AM
Nothing bad about the food, just after NB recall I feel less confident about introducing new uncertainties. My cats are getting less variety than usual that's why I ordered it in the first place, than I've seen NB recall info. Since NB venison and Peas does not contain gluten, who knows what is the problem. Tiki really looks good, but until it is discovered what the problem is I guess it will just sit in the cupboard, because I have no way to tell what is safe to feed now.

I got a couple of cans of Tikki, but I've been too afraid to open them. Ingerdeints look good, but I guess I'll just stick to Aixia and Inaba until this blows over. I opened one Almo nature yesterday but they didn't want to eat it.
51  Recall Related Information / General Recall Discussion / Re: HAS EVERYONE HAD ENOUGH ???? on: April 16, 2007, 11:36:11 PM
I've had a melt-down last night over NB recall. I used to feed NB, Solid Gold and Felidae or Innova, supposedly good foods, right? Now I feed only Timberwolf Serengeti as dry (this has been the case for past 2 weeks) and I keep thinking back for the last couple of months, re-examining every hairball and every throiqwng up incident, worrying over every tiny change in cats routine, they must think I've gone totally crazy since I just hold them and cry instead of playing with them.
52  Other Pet Topics / Miscellaneous Pet Topics / Re: Kitty Litter on: April 16, 2007, 01:05:17 AM
I used Swheat Scoop Cat Litter, it clumps, it is flushable, low dust and made of wheat. I've had good experiences with it. Since my kitten is almost entirely toilet trained (we are on the green ring of litter kwitter) I don't use much litter anymore. My older two are fully toilet trained and they just use toilet normally without training attachment.

It has an advantage of not only convenience (i.e. just flush), but also it is easier to notice any problems (i.e. soft stools etc.).
53  Raw Foods / General Discussion about Raw Foods / Freeze dried raw foods on: April 16, 2007, 12:54:48 AM
Anyone has experience with freeze dried raw diets (Nature's variety and Stella&Chewys)?
54  Dry and Wet Foods / General Discussion about Dry and Wet Packaged Foods / Re: Online pet food ordering on: April 16, 2007, 12:52:38 AM
I order from Only Natural Pet store, they have decent selection of organic and grain free foods, though in the light of new information with this recall (I am still in shock over how many "natural" brands had food manufactured by Menu) I had to revise my idea what is good and what isn't.

Their response is pretty quick, and food arrives within a week even for overseas orders.
55  Dry and Wet Foods / Merrick / Re: Merrick Canned Cat Food on: April 16, 2007, 12:48:00 AM
I tried this brand before in my quest for finding good food for my kitties, but they weren't interested in it at all.
56  Dry and Wet Foods / Timberwolf Organics / Re: Timberwolf Organics on: April 16, 2007, 12:45:21 AM
I am currently feeding my cats Timberwolf Serengetti, grain free cat dry food. They love it and are doing well on it so far, hope it'll stay that way.
57  Dry and Wet Foods / Orijen / Re: Anyone use Orijen? on: April 16, 2007, 12:28:35 AM
Caylynn, thanks for the info on Almo Nature, got some to try.

Garypen,
I am in Hong Kong, so we have both US brand imports and japanese brand imports. I often order online dry food and treats from US to get something (at least I thought so!) better quality than Iams and Hills, so I have been freaking out since this whole mess started. Only one of my three cats is willing to eat home cooked, they are all interested in raw but I can't feed raw on regular basis since I don;t want to feed meat from China because of poor safety standards, and imports from Australia and New Zealand and France are fresh enough only immediately after defrosting, i.e. 1-2 days per week.

As for which Japanese brands, I feed Aixia and Inaba. For Aixia, ingredients are tuna or chicken (can be with whitefish, prawns, etc), jelly, oligosacharides, and vit. E. Not too happy with oligosacharides, but the fish and chicken pieces look real (in both Aixia and Inaba, as well as Maruha and Mimmy Mio), just like the tuna in cans for human consumption. My cats prefer Aixia over Inaba. I am not sure where you can find those in North America. There are several pet stores here which accept online orders and ship overseas, but selection is not that great. This one has several Japanese brands, it does not have Aixia but it has Maruha which is very similar, see details:
http://www.upet.hk/shipping.html
Shipping fees are in HK dollars, exchange rate is 1 US dollar=7.8 Hong Kong dollars.
58  Raw Foods / General Discussion about Raw Foods / Supplements for home made diets on: April 13, 2007, 03:34:05 AM
Can anyone recommend me some good supplements for home made cat diets? Most of the things I've looked into (Missing Link, Call of the Wild) seem to have ingredients which are not really appropriate for cats.
59  Dry and Wet Foods / Orijen / Re: Anyone use Orijen? on: April 13, 2007, 03:31:49 AM
Sorry, I have no experience with Orijen (I use Timberwolf Serengetti which has similar composition and no grains), but I would appreciate if you;d share your experience with Almo Nature.

I am considering to get some almo Nature canned, I currently feed some japanese canned foods and solid gold, only chicken and tuna are avilable flavors, so I need to find something else good and safe to feed to provide some variety. I've been trying to cook for my kitties but they don't seem to be interested. And vitamin supplement ingredients look almost as bad, if not worse, than foods. Not sure what to do.
