31  Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / Re: Aggression from senile cat. Help! on: June 18, 2009, 09:58:17 PM
sherrylynne, I'm so sorry to hear about Mr. Stubb's aggression, but believe it or not it's not that unusual at all.  I've had several cats do this over the years.  I've come to learn it was because something frightened them or they became afraid; or they have been upset for some reason.  Even if they are in pain they can get upset over it. Aggression and biting that is atypical in a cat is mostly because they are frightened although there can certainly be other reasons. I would be surprised if it turns into a pattern for him.

I would just give him some time to see if it happens again and keep up the rescue remedy.

I hope Watson is okay, too!  It's always something.  After 25+ cats nothing really surprises me any more....

A couple of days ago little precious never naughty Athena got stuck between a desk and a wall.  She got totally freaked out and then got tangled in the computer cables.  My dh tried to lift her out, and she bit him hard!  This is a cat that's never bitten either of us before, but she was so frightened her natural instinct was to bite as a defense against the mean bad cables.

Joel Sher admits he runs a shady operation.  Quote from Mr. Sher on www.evangersdogfood.com:

"Write a business improvement plan? "That's a corporate thing to do," Joel Sher said. "I'm way too busy for that. At this point, things are too hectic to stop and sit down and do it the real professional way."

Pet Food Express determines Nature's Variety is no health risk to pets: http://bit.ly/CAkQE

This is great news and should ease a lot of people's minds.  I also commend Pet Food Express for taking a stand against a pet food company instead of just taking profits.

I wonder if "nutrient dense" means too much zinc like Nutro's recall?  I wonder if Trouw's makes the vitamin pre-mix for NV? I wonder if the vitamin pre-mix is the problem even if it's another vitamin?  I wonder, I wonder, I wonder because they won't freaking state what the problem is!

Just learned that Nature's Variety has recalled some products, read full story here: http://bit.ly/6wI4g

Anyone know more specifics?  Sure is unclear as to why the products are being withdrawn.

Yes, there really are two kitties in this photo!  What are your cats doing this morning??
38  Dry and Wet Foods / Evangers / Re: Evanger's FDA Problems on: June 12, 2009, 07:42:11 PM
Here we go again is right.  The report says the FDA determined this non-compliance by Evangers in April 2009.  What's today's date??  Why does it always take so long for the FDA or the PFCs to admit to serious problems?  It's bad enough they charge us to poison our pets (in food purchases and taxes), then they let them continue to be sick and die at their own negligence.
39  Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / Re: Please help me to help Rufus on: June 09, 2009, 09:06:20 PM
This is such great news!  It's amazing that they truly do have nine lives.  I love to hear stories like this and I sure was hoping little Rufus was going to amaze you again.

On the Yahoo Feline Heart group I'm on the members constantly talk about Royal Canin Lamb formula to stop vomiting and it seems to work.  Maybe it's just the lamb that does it.  I also used Royal Canin's other veterinary formulas for my CRF kitties and they did like it a lot.

Here's hoping Rufus keeps that tail up and the stools formed!
40  Recall Related Information / Kudos / Re: A Special thank you to Bonkers on: June 09, 2009, 08:59:00 PM
CT, Bonkers is right, we're all here to help you and Rufus so just let us know when you need a hand.  It's all so overwhelming at times but we've all been there so we know what you're going through.

I love the video, too, Bonkers...good find!

Yes, I agree, Cato is quite beautiful!  I absolutely believe it's all that safe homemade food you serve to him!
42  Dry and Wet Foods / Orijen / Re: Cat deaths linked to Orijen on: June 03, 2009, 09:05:48 PM
Champion have revamped their website and have removed all of their updates in regard to the problems with Orijen in Australia. There is no mention of the recall or the compassion fund to be found anywhere along with no mention of dealing with any new cases.  How these new cases will be notified, I have absolutely no idea.  I find this appalling given that it has only been a couple of weeks since the last case came to light. Three separate owners had no idea about the recall until a few weeks ago so who is to say there aren't any more people in Australia feeding this food that have no idea of any problems. It really seems to me that Champion can't wait to put this all behind them and get on with their new product. I do not say this often but Champion petfoods honestly disgust me. I would like to ask anyone that feels strongly about this to please contact Champion and let them know the importance of leaving all of the updates on their website until we are certain that no other cases will occur.
maxymia, this is disturbing to hear.  I can't understand why Champion would remove it as it only has the potential to harm more kitties.  Do you have any email addresses for the chumps at Champion?  I know Peter made it public a while ago but I can't find it.  Or anyone else we could email, if you can provide that would be great.
43  Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / Re: Rufus is in the hospital on: June 01, 2009, 09:55:28 PM
CT, what wonderful news!  I like the part about eating like a horse!  Nothing better than a kitty eating good.  Keep us posted about the rest of the test results.  I'm anxious to know anything AV can come up with.  If you decide on a lab for testing, let me know and I'll have my batch done too.

Sherrylynne, thanks for mentioning that about Wellness pouches having no problems.  I think all Wellness has the premix added, there's no other way to get all the vitamins and minerals in it that's needed.
44  Dry and Wet Foods / Nutro / Re: RECALLS - What to do? on: June 01, 2009, 04:55:47 PM
My guess is since the majority of negative info concerning Nutro is posted on the web, that they have enlisted these people in an attempt  to do some type of damage control.  Here is what's listed on Mars website about their "Mars Ambassador Program (MAP)."        http://www.mars.com/global/News+and+Media/News+archive/The+Mars+Ambassador+Program.htm
I think the Nutro AmbASSadors are different from the Mars ones. The ones from Mars actually seem to be helping the community.  The Nutro ones are just a bunch of kids posting around on the various forums.  They've been around for a while, too, not just since this last recall.
45  Dry and Wet Foods / Nutro / Re: RECALLS - What to do? on: June 01, 2009, 03:25:42 PM
"Nutro Ambassadors" just has a sickening ring for some reason with me.  So what did I do?  Well, I looked up the meaning of "ambassador" on Wikipedia.  Boy, did they hit the nail on the head:

"In a less formal sense, the word ambassador is used for high-profile non-diplomatic representative of various entities, mainly cultural and charitable organisations, often as willing figure heads to attract media attention."

Actually, it should be to attract and deflect media attention, then the meaning would encompass all of the Nutro ambassadors' duties.

Considering that one of the Nutro Ambassadors is a 23 year old college student means the only qualifications you need are Internet access and the ability to type 30 words a minute.
