Dry and Wet Foods / Nutro / Re: Excessive Levels Of Zinc Still Being Found In Nutro

There are sooooo many complaints about Nutro all over, these test results just reaffirm what pet parents are experiencing, sick and dying pets. I can't find another pet food company that even has 1/100th of the complaints that Nutro does. What sickens me most is, they're not being stopped.

Even just seizing the money could strain the business enough to force it under. Not to mention the horrendous legal fees they will face. A small biz like that may not be able to pull out of this. After reading other news blurbs on it, the state thinks they have a rock solid case against them, too. How low can Joel go?

OMG, this is disgusting if proven to be the truth! For them to go to that length and effort would have me question ALL of their ethics, or lack of. I would think messing with gas lines and high-voltage lines is fairly dangerous, too.
Watch, they'll put up a notice on their website that it's all a "misunderstanding" and a "paperwork problem", just like the FDA notice they got!

Hannie and Bonkers, I've watched for any update, too, and never saw anything. You would think something would be stated by Evanger's once the problem was resolved since the spin was the paperwork was wrong, and the product was fine. Perhaps an email to Holly Sher, the president, would get a response (Joel is the VP). Holly's email is holly@evangersdogfood.com.

Recall Related Information / Recall News / Important News from Consumer Product Safety Commission

This latest announcement of new rules in effect for violations of the CPSC is all about the money. "The Commission now (as of August 14, 2009) has the ability to seek higher penalty amounts. CPSIA increased the maximum penalty for each violation of the CPSA, FHSA and FFA from $8,000 to $100,000. Maximum penalty amounts for a related series of violations increased from $1.8 million to $15 million." So it's no longer a slap on the hand to send us your toys loaded with lead. But I have to wonder how they will enforce this in other countries like China? It also looks like they are back dating the rule to last Aug. Full article here: http://bit.ly/aAeWkK

Recall Related Information / NEW PET FOOD RECALLS / Re: Recall: Nature's Variety Chicken Formula Raw Frozen Diet

On March 8, tomp posted this on itchmo:
"BREAKING NEWS
Nature's Variety has now recalled all of their regular and organic chicken raw frozen diet products with a Best If Used By Date on or before 2/5/11.
Looks like the FDA did some follow-up and discovered that the former employees were speaking the truth."
His statement about the FDA is pure conjecture and opinion and cannot be substantiated.
PS: This is hardly breaking news. The earthquake in Chile was breaking news. I don't understand why all the drama about this recall.

Hannie, I couldn't agree with you more. Every PFC has or will have problems. Just like our own human food supply chain. I get emails almost daily from the FDA about recalled foods for salmonella, eColi, listeria, undeclared allergens, etc etc. I don't see any of these "human food" companies putting notices on their websites or more importantly changing their processes to prevent it from reoccurring.
I don't work for NV or have any affiliation with them. I don't even feed their foods to my cats. I do feed raw food and I'm sure it has bacteria all over it and never once after feeding raw for several years have my cats gotten sick.

Apparently, the moderator chose not to post, or removed, the post I submitted yesterday. I guess you can dish it out but not take it.
Note that NV's expanded recall notice referenced positive salmonella tests on two date codes that were not included in the initial recall.
No, it did not state the notice referenced positive salmonella. Here is the press release from NV: "LINCOLN, Neb., March 8 /PRNewswire/ — Nature’s Variety has expanded its voluntary recall of Chicken Formula Raw Frozen Diets for dogs and cats to include the “Best If Used By” dates of 10/29/10 and 11/9/10 because these products may be contaminated with Salmonella." "May be" does not mean "it is". The moderator here will remove all false information to keep this forum fair and balanced. No one here is "dishing" it out except for you.

tomp, the way I read and understand the updated recall notice is: NV is recalling all of the known raw chicken products left since they introduced the new process, they don't want to take any chances; they only want to sell products that have been through the new process. It's not a notice of additional products that are contaminated.
I think NV is doing more than the right thing and much more than other pfc's. I'd like to know what you personally, as an individual, have against NV?

my Rufus started showing signs of severe illness which is still ongoing. In my opinion, there were 2 foods that started this horror show. I now have improvements in Pugsley since he has not had either food in over 3 weeks. Rufus is another story.............. Peg, off topic but I have to inquire: which two foods?
