We recently had our dog, Joe, a perfectly healthy animal until Menu Foods destroyed his kidneys, die. We want another pup sometime soon and are wondering whether to assume that shelters could give us a poisoned pup without knowing it. They all seem to do the usual Veterinarian support, but kidney blood tests either cost extra or one would have to adopt a dog, take him to a vet, and get his kidneys tested and face the reality that the dog might be sick and have to be returned. I really am not sure I can tolerate that much pain. I have rarely been so sad in all my life.

Recall Related Information / General Recall Discussion / Re: FDA says melamine may be harmful after all

I think that you have that just about right. I am concerned that pork and chicken may both be tainted by melamine and I am afraid to eat either right now. The FDA may have been a good organization once, although it never had enough money or personnel to do the whole job right, but now you can assume that the FDA is about as useful as FEMA after a hurricane hits New Orleans.

Recall Related Information / General Recall Discussion / Re: Menu Foods announces claims information

I would not trust Menu Foods with a pet ant, but here's my point. Whatever they say, they're going to look at this just like companies look at people who have been poisoned by, say, asbestos or gotten some other kind of cancer from the environment--they make it virtually impossible to prove that your particular pet was killed by their food. So, for what it's worth I'm in a class action suit and would recommend that Menu Foods is trying to take the heat off themselves and discourage suits by making this claim that they will pay for doctor bills. They killed my dog Joe, and that's all I care about.

My dog had no monetary value to me because he was priceless. Menu Foods destroyed his kidneys and he died. How am I supposed to be sure that the next pup I want to adopt hasn't been poisoned too? The owner of this website suggested that I post here, but I have not found the ideal place in the list for those who are mostly in mourning.
Don't get me wrong, I've publicized on the internet to all my friends, I've tried to get TV coverage with no result, I've talked to Menu (rude) Foods recall line (they lied about Alpo, by the way, which I used all the time for Joe), and I'm part of what will be a large class action suit. But the money won't bring him back or ensure that this never happens again.

I tried TV stations, FOX Providence, 60 Minutes and 20/20. The only response I got was instructions from 60 minutes on how a story is sent to them properly. I have not done it, mostly because I do not think that it is of interest to any of these people. Apparently, if a mere animal dies (our dog, Joe, died of Menu Foods kidney failure recently and I'm half-destroyed by it), that's not exciting enough. But maybe we should try harder. If enough of us contact, say 60 minutes in the appropriate manner, they might take some notice. Otherwise, we do thank goodness for the internet and human rumors. That's how I heard about the food recall and then we found out Joe was sick.

I don't see it here, so I'm adding this for those of you who may not know that there are a number of Class Action Suits now forming against Menu Foods. I have signed up for one, and they can be found on the internet (how I found mine).
Before much happens, a judge is to combine the suits into one, I believe. It's not about the money. No amount of money would make any difference to us. It's about slapping those people for knowingly selling a tainted product to over a hundred American pet food packagers and possibly putting Menu out of business, which is the least they deserve. And it takes patience, because nothing will happen for about a year.
I would not blame them for the Chinese selling them tainted corn, wheat and rice gluten, but they tested the food themselves in Canada and a number of animals died in their own labs of kidney failure but they sold the food all over the United States anyway!
