I believe BB's canned food is made by American Nutrition! The same company which adulterated the canned food formula for Natural Balance foods, according to NB. According to NB AMI put (I think it was the contaminate rice protein into their formula without permission) NB is suing AMI, I believe.
In any case, I would feel uncomfortable feeding any canned food made by American Nutrition.
I met a rep from BB in Petsmart, and he said they had cancelled their contract with AMI because of the Natural Bal situation. You would have to call and verify that fact with Blue Buffalo. Sooo, I am still looking for a safe canned food for my cats.

I was in Petsmart about a week ago, and saw a woman getting ready to buy Royal Canin. She had a new puppy. I told her she should be careful because of Royal Canin's recalls and that she should go online and check the recall lists before buying. I told her that Royal Canin had had a number of recalls, and I personally wouldn't buy it. She seemed confused and shocked when I told her that there had been deaths, illnesses and recalls of over 100 brands of pet food. She knew nothing about ANY recalls. I don't know what world she had been living in. She seemed very nice and concerned about her new puppy. I told her about the Itchmo and Pet connection websites, and where she could get info on all the brands and all the recalls, but she was in a state of shock, not having been aware of any recalls at all. It was all news to her.
A store manager, was talking to her, and evidently recommending Royal Canin to her, he was not pleased with me, and took the woman away.
Next to them another man had been standing, and when the manager took the woman away, I asked him if he was a manager. He said no, he was a Blue Buffalo rep, in the store to discuss BB with customers or managers, I guess, and he had all sorts of paperwork with him, laminated statements etc. and he said BB had cancelled their contract with American Nutrition because of their fraudulent activities tampering with the recipes, and that none of their foods had tested positive for melamine, and their had been no deaths or illnesses associated with their food. They had simply recalled it out of an abundance of caution or whatever that phrase is that everyone uses now. He went on and on about what a great product they had, and what great ingredients they used. Before I left, I saw the manager bring the lady back to the Royal Canin foods. I don't know what she did. The manager was talking talking, and the poor woman was listening to him trustingly. She had a bag of BB in her hand, I hope that is what she bought, since they haven' had any dry food recalled, I don't think. I finally left. I just don't think I want anything to do with a company that was associated with AMI. I am still searching for an alternative to Fancy Feast canned for all my cats. They eat EVO, and Orijen dry, but need some safe canned desperately. I have an FUS cat, a diabetic cat, and a CRF cat.in my opinion plus many others. They will NOT eat the Evangers I tried, I'll try some other flavors, but some of their flavors don't look very appetizing at all.

Ok, I think I may have answered my own question. I think the appetizing looking chicken was DOG food. They have a photo of the whole chicken on the label of the big can of dog food. http://www.evangersdogfood.com/dog/50099.html100% Organic Cooked Chicken A whole dressed organic chicken simmered in natural well water is a wonderful healthy supplement. GUARANTEED ANALYSIS: CRUDE PROTEIN MIN. 8.0% CRUDE FAT MIN. 4.0% CRUDE FIBER MAX 1.5% MOISTURE MAX 78.0% INGREDIENTS: WHOLE DRESSED ORGANIC CHICKEN, NATURAL WELL WATER I think I am going to try some for my cats. Don't see why I couldn't if there is nothing in it but chicken and water. Hope it isn't one of those whole mela chickens, but it is supposed to be ORGANIC. btw, several of my cats ate the evangers turkey and squash today!!! So the whole can was eaten, for the first time. My old sick cats ate it, and my fluffy main coon type ate it. Maybe it is just a matter of time, as someone else here said.

For those of you who said the chicken flavors Evangers cat food looked very dark, with black specks, unappetizing etc. have you seen the videos on this site: http://www.evangersdogfood.com/about/television1.htmlthe video from the pet expo, shows the owner taking a bite of the chicken, out of the dish, and it looks like big pieces of people chicken, the same color, nice and light and appetizing etc. Take a look. I would think my cats should like that, but it certainly doesn't look like some of the descriptions of the chicken cat food in this thread. Sooo, does anyone have any idea what flavor this good looking chicken might be?? Could it be the kosher chicken? Could it be the dog food and not the cat food? I am wondering why there is such a disparity between the descriptions in this thread about the chicken flavors and the appearance of the chicken in this video. Could the the video be simply an advertising gimmick. OR..... are there flavors I don't know about, or....

Yes, I do have an updated version of Adobe. Each time I have tried to dl an adobe file and it offers me the opportunity to dl the most recent version, I have done it, but still, pdf files freeze me up and require a reboot. I have finally given up. I have a friend who also has the same problem.
It may be a Windows problem, since there are many of those, nevertheless, I have used up my patience and just don't dl pdf files any longer.
I am eagerly awaiting Tuesday so I can return my Evangers Turkey and squash, and seafood cavier etc. I am desperately hoping I'll be able to get the mackerel and that they will like it. I should not have bought 2 cases without a promise that I could return it for a refund. I was sooo relieved to be able to find someone who sells it, I cast caution to the winds. :-) They will give me a store credit, but they don't carry EVO or Orijen, soooo. We will see what happens. A lady in the supermarket told me she buys canned Icey Point Alaskan salmon, and her cats LOVE IT for treats a couple times a week. Well, I searched and found some, and my cats WILL NOT EAT IT. It is just salmon, water and salt. I did think it was very salty, and I tried to rinse off the salty water, but still they wouldn't eat it.
My friend's cats LOVE her people frozen shrimp. My cats WON'T TOUCH THEM!! ' Every time I open a can of Evangers, they eat about half of it, and then walk away, leaving a half a can, which eventually dries out and must be thrown away. At $.89 a can, I can't afford that, and they won't eat it if it has been refrigerated. Considering how many cats I have, it is amazing that I can't get a whole 5.5 can of Evangers eaten at one time.
Shop Rite Sardines in aspic: Does anyone know who manufactures ShopRite sardines in aspic?? My friend's cats love that a couple times a week, the can says it is nutritionally incomplete because it is nothing but the sardines and aspic, no vitamins or minerals. They have been eating it for a long time a couple times a week as a treat. So far they are fine. I can't find it on the recall list at Menu. And I see Chanango Valley makes some of Shop Rite's dry dog food, some was recalled. I haven't been able to find out who makes Shop Rite's canned food.

Ok, I have thrown out my last contents of a can of Turkey and squash which were left on the plate. At about 90 cents a 5.5 oz can, I can't afford to do that again. I need to access information on the petfood list of recall info because it is all in PDF form now, and that crashes my computer. I have the latest PDF software, and STILL any pdf file crashes my computer, and involves rebooting etc.etc. I thought there use to be a list you could access with all the brands, and flavors and dates without using PDF files, but I cannot find it now. And going through all my 2 months of emails of Itchmo alerts would simply not be feasible. So does anyone know where there is a recall list with brand, flavor, and date info that is NOT PDF?

Cindy, no, by no means did you make me feel worse. It is just the situation that in general continues to make me feel worse. I would LOVE to know what in the world Fancy Feast puts in their food that makes my cats love it so much. They don't like most Fancy Feast actually, they have always liked ONLY the flavors without wheat gluten, thank goodness!! However, they certainly do like those. I don't know what in the world is in them, could it be sugar, or.....?I know the nice color of the food makes it appeal to me, but I know that is silly and is only for the pet owners sake. I am trying to adjust to the ugly color graybrown that the Evangers is.
I just decided to get another bag of Live's Abundance, since my friends cats have been eating it for a long time with no ill effects, but today she told me they have CHANGED THEIR FORMULATION. They have added alfalfa sprouts, and re-ordered other things a bit. I know alfalfa sprouts are very good for people, excellent for arthritis, when I used to eat a lot, my joints NEVER hurt, and I am old. BUT I wonder where the alfalfa sprouts come from. Sounds like something that would come from China!!!
Anyway, I am going to check out the Evangers doggie mackerel, and the Hunk of beef, and see if they like that. At least they like the EVO and the ORIJEN dry food, they won't starve. My friend gives her cats L.A., Evo, and the Fancy Feast without wheat gluten, and all 9 cats are still fine, and also now and then she gives them the Shop Rite sardines in aspic! Nothing in that but the sardines and aspic, no vitamins, nothing else, and the cats LOVE IT. It says on the can that it isn't nutritionally complete, but for a treat her cats love it a couple times a week. I do NOT know where the sardines come from. I think I will call them and ask, and I will also ask where it is canned!!! Wouldn't be surprised if it is canned by Menu. If it is then I wouldn't even consider it. Have a great holiday weekend! And thanks for the help. And my cats thank you all too.

I fear I could not hold out for 2 months, I have so many cats, nor could I hold out any of their dry food. I am giving them EVO, and now some Orijen, and that is really the only food I really trust. Well, I will have to continue to give them the Fancy Feast without wheat gluten for a little while longer, while at the same time trying other things too. Hopefully they will like the Evangers mackerel because today they refused to eat the seafood and caviar also, so I have 2 cases of food they will not eat, and I can't get a refund, only a store credit. At the moment they don't carry EVO or ORIJEN. Hmmmm, I will have to pray they get the mackerel in and that the cats like about $50 worth of it.
I am really tired tonight, and feel like I am starting the food search all over again. I thought I had found a good food they would eat....Well, they won't starve on the dry EVO and the Orijen. I am about ready to order another big bag of the Life's Abundance. I didnt' want to, It has brown rice in it, but my 2 other friends have been feeding it through out the whole crisis and their cats are still fine. I didn't want to order it because Menu makes their canned food!!! And I don't want to support Menu in any way. Ohio makes their L.A. dry food. It hasn't had any recalls. However, if I can't find another canned food I can trust......
My one friend with 9 cats is feeding them the EVO, since I found that, Life's Abundance, which she has always used, and Fancy Feast without gluten, sometimes some of the awful Shop Rite sardines, which they say on the can is not complete. Her cats have been fine.
Of course that doesn't solve what to give the CRF cat who should only eat wet food. <big sigh> I am too tired to read any more blogs tonight, I will start over again tomorrow. I feel about 100 yrs. old tonight. Maybe my samples of the Evangers will come tomorrow and will have some mackerel in it. :-) OR, I can go try some of the Evengers doggie mackerel!!!

Cindy, I just spoke with the man from Evangers. he was very nice and seemed willing to talk a long time. He called me back re: numbers and saidthe target ph of their canned cat food was between 6.- 6.1 He said they didnt' measure the carbs, but it would be close to nothing since they use no grains.
I asked him about the mackerel in his canned cat food, and he said that his mackerel for cats is caught in the Pacific, it is frozen while still on the ships after being caught, and delivered to Evangers frozen, and they thaw it out and then HAND PACK it right away into the cans and seal it. Nothing else in it, just the mackerel and broth. IF I can't get the cat mackerel soon, I will try some of the dogfood which is basically the same thing. He says the number of fish in each can of cat food depends on the size of the fish that come in. Sometimes 3 if they are smallish and sometimes if they are bigger, the workers can only squeeze one into the can. It is back ordered now, and I am hoping to get some soon. I feel this would be a pretty safe food for the cats. I have a few cats that are craving some fish.
I asked whether or not they tested for melamine and he said no because they used no grains or glutens etc. and therefore he didn't feel there was any way for the melamine to get into their food.. I asked about the chicken feed the chickens were fed, since some of the chicken feed had been contaminated, and he said the chicken feed their chickens eat is organic, certified organic, and so there was no danger there. I am not sure how confident I can be with regards to the "certified" organic chicken feed. Perhaps someone else here would know.
I am looking forward to getting some of the mackerel. He said the Hunk of Beef dogfood has nothing in it but a big piece of beef similar to pot roast, and water, and that if I wanted to cut it up, perhaps I could use it for the cats. Their meat is supposed to be kosher meat, though I didn't discuss that with him. He thinks this beef might not be as palatable for cats, since the catfood has liver in it to make it tastier and the Hunk of beef doesn't. Hmmm, I am not sure my cats like the liver flavor. I hate the liver smell myself. when he found out how many cats I have he said to let him know how they liked the hunk of beef, and he might consider making a smaller can of it for cats. I figure my cats get their vitamins and minerals from the Innova EVO dry, so if they liked the beef, it might be an additional meat for variety's sake. And a source of real meat protein. My vet told me that the only fancy feast canned food my FUS cat could eat was the tender beef, so this way I could give him some beef without all the meat by-products and garbage in the FF.
I am still looking for another canned food, I don't ever want to rely on only one food again. They ate the turkey and squash yesterday, best by date May 2013, but they didn't like what I got that was best by May 2012. I told him this and he said it might have something to do with what specific parts of the turkey were in that lot. Different lots, might have some different parts of the turkeys. I will try that again when another batch comes in next week. I believe that someone else commented that the food sometimes lookd dissimilar, and this was a concern to her. The cats did seem willing to eat the seafood and caviar again today. Thank goodness. they did NOT like the seafood dinner.
I should have asked him where the fish in his seafood and caviar flavors came from, but I didn't think of it. I was concentrating on the mackerel. No matter how many questions I ask, I always think of others after I hang up or post an email. Someone else could call them. 1-800-288-6796 I originally spoke to a lovely young lady, and she didn't have any numbers so she had the gentleman call me back.

I will let you know as soon as they contact me about all the numbers. And Cindy, are Pacific mackeral tiny fish?? Gee, I thought they must be babies, if they were that small, and hence might have been from fish farms! Shows how much I know about fish, doesn't it.
The cans I got had a use by date of May 2012 and May 2013! Gee, they expect it to stay good in the can a loooong time. The 2012 can really didn't look appetizing at all, sort of dark gray and oogie, but the cats ate it. the 2013 cans looked better, not quite as gray, but still dark. When I went back to get more, they only had the 2012 cans left, but I bought it. Hopefully they have 2013 cans next Tuesday when more comes in. I am used to canned food with lots of preservatives I guess, my Fancy Feast can sit in the dish for a couple hours, and still look pretty good when they come back to finish it up. The Evangers looks pretty much ready to put in the garbage after a little while. It doesn't really give them as much time to decide to come back and finish eating it. I won't give them so much at a time.
I am eagerly awaiting the mackeral. They did NOT like the Seafood Dinner at all, so I will return that and get more of the fish and caviar dinner. The turkey and squash was the best of all.

Lacy, You said, >>She also said they weren't testing for melamine because there were no problems with their food. <<
Now that would have upset me. If they don't test, how could she be so sure. Perhaps just based on where she knows the ingredients come from, perhaps. When I am contacted about the numbers of target urine ph, carbs, and phosphorus, I will ask the man about whether or not they TEST for melamine. She just told me that there was no melamine in their food, and so I assumed they had tested and therefore knew that. NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING, I guess.
I am wondering if I spoke to the same young lady you spoke to, and if I did, I will once again check with the man about whether or not the mackeral is "farmed" or caught in the ocean. Yup, I am getting paranoid at this point.
I am also wondering if I could give some of the kosher meat DOG foods to my cats that need high protein low carb, since there is nothing in it but meat and water for processing. They could get their vitamins and minerals from their Innova EVO dry food, and their canned turkey squash canned. I think the distinction between dog and cat food might just be in the vitamins and minerals.

I think it was lacy who asked what the mackeral were fed. I called Evangers this morning and asked the girl if the mackeral were "farmed" and if so what they were fed because I feared Melamine in the fish food. She said there was no melamine in any of their food, and the mackeral came from our West Coast. I said what did that mean the west coast, where in the west coast, and she said it was ocean fish. I asked if she meant caught in the ocean, (just to be sure, I'm paranoid now) and she said YES! So therefore it wouldn't be fed anything.
I hope she knew what she was talking about. They are always very nice when I call and I have called often.
I wanted the mackeral, but it was back ordered. I just got some turkey and squash, and immediately my cats ate 2 cans. I was not tickled with the appearance, personally, kind of dark and not as evenly ground or processed, or something, but but they ate it without too much hesitation, just a few sniffs and licks and then several cats ate it. In one can I saw a piece of tubular something about an inch long, and it gave me pause, but I guess it was part of the "innards!" Better that than melamine! And of course cats eat such parts when they hunt. I am used to looking at Fancy Feast etc. which has been processed to death, and I don't want to impose my sensibilities regarding appearance on my cats.
I have a cat that frequently throws up on Fancy Feast, and no one threw up so far on the Evangers. I also gave them some of the seafood with caviar, one can, and that is almost all eaten up too. I have called and told them to put a case of both away for me. That is all they had till next Tuesday. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they continue to like it. I am waiting to be contacted by Evangers with numbers of phosphorus, target urine ph, and carbohydrates. I have a diabetic cat with hyperthyroid problems, an FUS cat, and a CRF cat, so I need to know the numbers. I have not been called with the info yet, so if anyone knows, I would appreciate any help. I gave some turkey and squash to my FUS cat and he liked it, and also some turkey to my crf cat, and he did too, but I won't continue that till I know the numbers.

Williagogo, Well, I am new here. I have come from Itchmo, and I was about to write a reply to Truth be known's insulting, and I must say "suspicious" message, but now I don' t have to write any thing at all, you said it all for me, exactly what I was thinking in all your posts. Good work! You hit the nail on the head with each message. What a pity to have to read a message like Truth's in a place like this, dedicated to trying to save our beloved companions. Bless the bloggers all, for saving countless innocent animals by their tireless efforts. I don't know how I would have gotten through this disaster without them. And it is not over yet. There still remains a lot of work to do. All my thanks and bless you all. Maybe we should make a bumper sticker, "Proud to Be an 'off the charts' Blogger!"
