Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / Re: JUST DIAGNOSED: KIDNEYS IN DANGER!! HELP!!

THANK YOU ALL for your info&support!
I did check w/ my county's veterinary department, but they don't have a so called independent lab in the state to do extra tests (at least that's what they told me...They actually referred me to the usual "infamous" vet clinics in the area, HUGE disappointment!).
I do have all tests' results from Vet#2, I will try to post them to have your opinion.

SAMSON'S UPDATE:
according to Vet#2, who performed Samson's latest bloodwork, he's a pretty healthy cat, there are no white cells in his urine and even if his protein levels are a bit high, there's nothing serious to worry about. ON THE OTHER HAND Vet#1's results prompted her to call me to tell me Samson had an infection and his kidneys are not working properly...!!?? I want to believe Vet#2 because he did an extensive accurate bloodwork and actually visited my furbaby IN PERSON!!
BUT NOW I'M UTTERLY CONFUSED!! OH MY GOODNESS... STILL... MY FURBABY LOOKS AND ACTS JUST FINE...!!

Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / JUST DIAGNOSED: KIDNEYS IN DANGER!! HELP!!

This morning I brought my furbaby's urine sample to have it tested as a precaution (recovered from struvite crystals earlier this year). Results came back with the devastating news that his urine is full of protein+white cells=kidneys are not working properly (they were perfectly allright until 3 months ago!!).
Here's what I'm supposed to do for the next 2 weeks: -mix his favorite moist food with HILL'S K/D RX DIET -give 2 dropperful 50mg/mL AMOXIL twice daily
I'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WHO'S BEEN ALL THROUGH THIS BEFORE!!
PLEASE REDIRECT ME TO THE APPROPRIATE THREADS DISCUSSING KIDNEY PROBLEMS' EARLY STAGES!!
IS IT TOO LATE TO SAVE MY 9 YO 23.5 lbs INDOOR TONKINESE?? I HOPE NOT!!
-currently very distressd Samson's Mom

Pet Products and Resources (NOT foods) / Pet Treats / NEED INFO ABOUT PET GOLD
|
on: July 20, 2007, 07:04:14 PM

Just bought PET GOLD dehydrated salmon cat treats at Petco: seems the kind of natural treat my furbaby will love and it's all completely natural (Ingredients: salmon, salt and nothing else), but it does come from China...Should I be worried? Has anyone ever tried this brand? Does anyone know if it's ever been recalled?
Please redirect me to the appropriate thread if this product has already been discussed in the past, THANKS!!

Dry and Wet Foods / Purina Pet Foods / Re: Fancy Feast?

HONESTLY: feeding a 9 y o indoor slightly overweight cat FF ONLY (no wheat gluten varieties) is going to be dangerous in the long run? Because FF wouldn't be that bad, if they only substituted those dreadful by-products with healthier stuff (I was thinking of starting a petition to demand a change in ingredients...).
Naive question, concerned about the fact that furbaby throws up organic food...!!

Dry and Wet Foods / By Nature / Re: By Nature

Been trying to feed my 9 y o overweight Tonkinese healthier canned food since the recall made aware of dangers and risks: I introduced him to Avoderm and By Nature Organics - while he partially turned up his nose at Avoderm, he VOMITED By Nature TWICE, but guess what? Samson ADORES his Fancy Feasts (no wheat gluten varieties) and sofar has never had any stomach problem with those, which, compared with By Nature are definitely less healthy! WHY IS THAT??
Currently perplexed and confused...

My Samson loves ALL FF gluten-free flavors; he doesn't dislike healthier varieties like By Nature, Avoderm or Newman's Own, but so far he refuses to eat them separately: I must add a little bit of FF, especially Tender Beef, to make sure he actually eats the organic food (3 times out of 5 I do find some organic leftovers, but absolutely NO trace of his favorite FF...). We're just beginning to mix FF w/ some healthier stuff: let's see what happens, keeping our fingers crossed...
IF ONLY FF manufacturer substituted those dreaded by-products w/ SOME REAL MEAT instead!!

While transitioning from Rx food to a more balanced and healthy (ABSOLUTELY NO DRY, CANNED ONLY) diet, I found some Fancy Feast varieties that aren't so bad (no wheat gluten, less than 10% carbs, no fruits/veggies). The problem now is that my cat seems addicted to it, turning up his nose at more wholesome food w/ organic ingredients...I REALLY WANT TO AVOID BY-PRODUCTS, Fancy Feast was not supposed to be the one and only source of nutrition for my indoor 9 y o slightly overweight recovering from struvite crystals furbaby!!
ANY FEEDBACK WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!

Dry and Wet Foods / General Discussion about Dry and Wet Packaged Foods / FOOD ADDICTION

Please redirect me to the appropriate thread if this subject has already been discussed in the past:
IS WET CAT FOOD ADDICTIVE?
Since my Samson discovered FANCY FEAST, he's been turning up his nose at more wholesome canned food varieties; I don't mind feeding him FF beef or turkey varieties w/ no wheat gluten; FF is also low on carbs and there are no fruits/veggies, but how high is its phosphorus level? AND I'm not exactly comfortable w/ the amount of by-products either...
