1  Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / Re: scratch on cornea on: August 10, 2007, 08:28:56 AM
Is your cat's eye better?  Do you have an opthamologist vet you can go to?  I don't remember the specifics, but my cat developed a dark spot on his eye & a lot of cloudiness (corneal sequestrum), which developed because of feline herpes.  My regular vet didn't have experience with this, or so it seemed, and was treating it as a cornea ulcer.  The eye vet put him on a couple of different medicines & l-lysine for a long, long time.  I don't mean to alarm you.  I wish someone had told me about this so I could've acted quicker.

I think his eyes look pretty good now that he's on different food.  We'll be going for his annual checkup this fall and I'm anxious to see what the eye vet says.

If the bloodwork was done inhouse, I would suggest getting your vet to send it an outside testing facility.  As someone else suggsted, I also think it's a good idea to get a copy of the test results.  Good luck.  I hope your kitty is okay.

It's been a long time since I've used S'Wheat and I'm remembering it was dusty and that's why I stopped.  Even Yesterday's News can get a little dusty when I scoop it, but I don't think the dust is getting on my cats' fur.  I also tried some sort of feline pine litter, the kind that doesn't have problems associated with it.   Tracking is bad with Yesterday's News compared to some other products.

I never thought about that (pesitcides--yuk).  He also had the pad problem with other litters--I can't remember the brands.  He was okay with plain clay and S'Wheat but they were too dusty.

I use Yesterday's News, original formula.  One of my cats is allergic to a lot of litter & his foot pads will get oozy and broken.  That especially happened with World's Best (I think) because of the corn in it.  Yesterday's News doesn't control odor as well as some litters though.

Re Jenny's post.  I recently started feeding Evanger's (who reportedly make Felidae) and I also found a piece of rubber-y looking chicken in a couple of the cans and also a small piece of bone.  I'm still using it but  mash it before I give it to them.  I wish there were more choices.
