Geff,
You might try crushing some of the CN and sprinkling that over the top of the wet. It might entice him more.
I have a Persian cat who has a very short nose and I have to use a shallow ceramic bowl. I cut up the food (Wellness) into pea size pieces so that he can pick it up. I also sometimes will hand feed it because that's the easiest way for him to pick it up. It's not an ideal situation, but it works for us.
I'm still feeding dry CN and Wellness canned.

Geoff,
I just wanted to support what you wrote.
I have a kitty with very a sensitive digestive system. He can't eat all the fruit and vegetables that are in so many cat foods. I hope another company will jump on the bandwagon and make a food like CN. I've written to Wellness in hope they will consider making a similar food.

I sure can understand the frustration of having an IBD kitty. I've had two and it's tough enough when they're sick, but then having to worry if the food you're giving them is causing the flare-up because there's something wrong with it or is it stress from something else.
I hope your kitties continue to improve.

Geoff,
I'm glad to hear your sample bag seems okay. I've been feeding from 07/08, can't remember the exact date right now since I'm not at home and have not had any difficulties with it either. Andy seems to be doing fine.
I never got any resolution from my Better Business complaint. Natura responded to me initially, but I didn't accept their response since it was just a "canned" response. They said I never sent a sample to be tested which I had and supplied them with the sample number and ask that they post the results, but the company had until 9/7 to respond again and now the case is closed because there was no response.
I'm really not happy with their response, but I guess I'm not surprised.
Unfortunately there are not a lot of choices for Andy since he has an extremely sensitive GI system and responds very well to CN. sigh

Dry and Wet Foods / California Natural / Re: Natura Cal Nat: Has YOUR Cat Actually Gotten Sick?

I sent the "black chunk" bag (most of it anyway) back to Natura for testing which is still pending.
I purchased a different bag and have been feeding from that one. It has some small black specks, but very few and very small compared to the other bag. I still check all the kibble as I'm pouring it out and take out any pieces that appear to have any black specks.

Geff,
I responded to your post on Itchmo, but I will respond here as well. I'm kind of in the same quandry. I found the "black chunks" in the CN about 2 months ago and found them to be plant matter of some sort from the best I can tell. When I found them I tried to switch Andy to Wellness Indoor Health, but loose, runny stools persisted despite switching him over very slowly. I've since gone back to CN Chicken and Brown Rice. It seems to be the only food that does not cause GI upset for him. I've tried other foods foods in the past too before settling on CN.
The choice I have is have him be sick with constant runny stools and risk dehydration or let him eat what agrees with him. I have noticed no adverse affects in Andy's behavior while eating the CN. He's been eating CN dry and 1/4 can of Wellness wet grain free food for 16 months now. His labs in April were normal.
