1  Dry and Wet Foods / Blue Buffalo / Re: Blue Buffalo at Petsmart on: October 25, 2007, 11:50:39 AM
I received an e-mail from BB stating that this new 6 0z canned cat food is made by Simmons Pet Food.  I googled Simmons.  They had a major dog food recall.  I could find no cat food recall as of yet related to Simmons.
BB did respond promptly to my query about who their manufacturer is.

I recieved the following response from BB:

Dear Judy,

Thank you for your interest in BLUE. I am not sure when you called however, if it was over the weekend, that would be why you were unable to get a hold of us. We are here Mon-Fir, 9am-5pm eastern standard time. Looking back at our records we do not have a message from you, but we do apologize for the inconvenience. In response to your email, the canned foods on the shelves are new. We started re-producing and shipping to retailers in the beginning of October. The reason it is not on our website yet is because not all stores have their shipments and there are more retailers who do not have them then do. We did not want to confuse the majority of the people by showing it on our site, and then not having it available. By the end of Oct beginning of Nov. all stores should have their shipments and our website will be updated.

 Best regards,

Samantha Downing

The Blue Buffalo Company

Note:
(I e-mailed her again, asking who the manufacturer is)

Saw 6 oz cans of BB cat food last weekend.  Called BB about it because they don't show it as available on their website.  Could not get through to anyone.  Tried to call Petsmart.  Spoke to someone at customer service.  They said they don't know anything about it and to talk to the store manager.  I spoke with the manager--he said "we get in what they send us."  I e-mailed BB asking if this was a new product and if it is supposed to be on the shelf for sale.  They have not answered.  Anyone else see this at Petsmart?  I couldn't find it for sale on-line, either.
4  Dry and Wet Foods / General Discussion about Dry and Wet Packaged Foods / Avocados & cats on: July 19, 2007, 10:34:36 AM
Conflicting opinions regarding avocados being toxic to cats.  I wanted to try Avoderm and bought two cans, but, now I am concerned.  I have read articles saying its toxic and others saying its not.  Anyone know?  Anyone use the canned?  Thanks, ya'll.
5  Dry and Wet Foods / General Discussion about Dry and Wet Packaged Foods / Re: FOOD ADDICTION on: June 13, 2007, 10:59:28 AM
I often wondered if there was anything addictive put in the cheaper pet foods.  My cat loves the cheap stuff (which I no longer give him since the recall) and turns his nose up at the expensive cat food.  I keep telling him, "Look, this little can cost me $1.50.  Either quit wasting food or get a job and buy what you want!"  (So far he continues to sleep on  the couch and yawn when I discuss his possible employment)  I am, I believe, addicted to Starbucks and can no longer stomache Folgers.

The ingredients are good but I too am concerned about the synthetic vit. K.
I tried it for my cat but he didn't like any of the cannned and I didn't try the dry.

I have been using it for my cat since March (since the recall).  It took him a while to take to it, but now it is his favorite. My  concern was the sythetic vitamin K on the label.  Per the company and the manufacturer, the vit. k was taken out a year ago, and new labels are being printed.  I get it at Trader Joe's.

As for sending registered mail, make sure you send it registered/return receipt, so that you will get the green return receipt card back indicating the day it was received and who signed for it!
9  Recall Related Information / General Recall Discussion / Doane Pet Care & Menu merged 2000? on: May 29, 2007, 03:56:11 PM
Came across this study done by University Of Mass regarding pet food's use of cranberries.  Lots of other info like who merged with who, who makes what foods. Doane Pet Foods stated in this study that it merged with Menu Foods in the year 2000--I don't recall this info ).  See study in pdf at:
(it is about 197 pages)

Blue Seal also makes Brandon Farms.  I opened a can of their Brandon Farms cat food and it made a very loud noise, almost like a gunshot.  I e-mailed the company this morning, and they e-mailed back to me in less than 30 minutes!!!  I was impressed.  They explained to me that they were aware of this problem in some of their cans and that there was too much air in the can, and that the cat food was safe.  My point is that this company responded PROMPTLY.  I e-mailed a thank you to them and received a "You're Welcome" back in a few minutes!!   Smiley Cheesy
11  Dry and Wet Foods / Fromm / Re: Fromm? on: May 10, 2007, 10:44:12 AM
 Angry
I called Fromm again yesterday afternoon, as they had said they would get back to me within 24 hours--they did not.  Twice spoke with "Carole" who said she e-mailed my inquiry about Vitamin K listed as ingredient on cans of Shredded chicken (cat) and  Tuna & Chicken (cat) to their nutritionist-but he hadn't contacfted her back, manufacture dates of January 2006.  She said Brian was not in the office.  I also sent two emails-both yet to be answered.  Poor response from this company.

13  Dry and Wet Foods / Fromm / Re: Fromm? on: May 08, 2007, 09:24:13 AM
I just bought a can of Fromm shredded chicken and a can of tuna & chicken.
The label states Vitakim K supplement, but the web site ingredient list does not show it.  Also, I was given a sample bag of Duck a La Veg--and the ingredient label states "rice gluten,  and Menadione (vitamin K supplement).  Has Fromm always claimed to not use any glutens?  There is no experatioin date on any of the sample bags.  I haven't called the company yet--wanted to ask ya'll if anyone knows if the rice gluten and Vit. K are recent deletions??
