76  Dry and Wet Foods / Nutro / Re: RECALLS - What to do? on: June 16, 2009, 02:47:12 PM
This just in from a friend:

TEST RESULTS BACK: Nutro Recall food tested, & zinc level found to be 2100 ppm. http://tinyurl.com/nzgoyw

Wasn't it toxic levels of zinc in the dog food that was tested a while back?  Does anyone remember what the levels were in the dog food?Huh??  If something had been done about it when it was first found, other animals would not have had to suffer needlessly. Cry  But then again, we're just a bunch of hysterical pet parents!  What do we know.

Well, this coming tuesday is the big day. Can't wait to find out what their punishment will be........

Will you post when you learn what the punishment is.......fifteen whips w/a wet gluten noodle or some such thing?  A slap on the wrist?

I think they should be required to use up all those glutens in their home cooking......but I'd much rather see them do time.  Won't happen, we all know that. Cry

78  Dry and Wet Foods / By Nature / Re: Where is it made? on: June 16, 2009, 10:39:57 AM
You must have sent me a mental message! Grin

I was just thinking about that.......they never responded to my email.

I guess I know the answer to my question! Angry

One of the few canned foods that I trust may be involved in the latest fiasco.  Guess I'll have to go back to Honest Kitchen to keep on hand for those times when silly me forgets to do some cooking for my baby girl! Wink

I may send a "second request".......tee hee.  If I hear anything, will post.
79  Dry and Wet Foods / General Discussion about Dry and Wet Packaged Foods / Re: Premix Formulations Used In Commercial Pet Foods on: June 15, 2009, 10:12:12 AM
Natura has refused to answer about who they use. To me that means Trouw.
Gee, why does that not suprise me? I suppose there are quite a few companies that are refusing to answer.  Angry

They are hiding under the "proprietary" umbrella once again.

Personally, if you refuse to disclose that info, chances are you're using Trouw.

No matter who a pfc uses, my guess is that most all of it is MIC anyway.  Most of our vits are no longer made/manufactured here.  That also gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling (as in nauseous).  You know pf vits come from China so I have to pray a lot as I add those into every meal for the pooch. Huh
80  Dry and Wet Foods / Nature's Variety / Re: Nature's Variety Product Withdrawal on: June 15, 2009, 10:04:34 AM
I wonder if "nutrient dense" means too much zinc like Nutro's recall?  I wonder if Trouw's makes the vitamin pre-mix for NV? I wonder if the vitamin pre-mix is the problem even if it's another vitamin?  I wonder, I wonder, I wonder because they won't freaking state what the problem is!

If I remember correctly (no guarantees of that!), NV was one of the PFCs that refused to name where they get their vit premix.

I guess I was sort of "hinting" at what I thought nutrient dense means......I have a gut feeling that, even though we weren't aware of it, that was the start of the problems with the premix.  I believe it also has something to do with the recent "withdrawal".......no matter what you call it, there is still a problem.  I am slowly but surely losing what tiny amount of faith I have left when it comes to feeding my fur kid commercial pf. Angry

Not that our food is any safer.......that situation is getting much worse.  At least when I home cook, I know what's going into her food. Tongue
81  Dry and Wet Foods / Nature's Variety / Re: Nature's Variety Product Withdrawal on: June 14, 2009, 08:23:48 PM
Unfortunately they have had issues now with three of their foods within a little over a year.  Thank goodness it has so far been nothing serious. I know making pet food may be a complicated process, but why does it seem most problems are only discovered after the food has been shipped??

Multiple choice:

1.  Total lack of QC

2.  Total lack of QC

You get to choose! Cheesy
82  Dry and Wet Foods / Nature's Variety / Re: Nature's Variety Product Withdrawal on: June 14, 2009, 03:16:55 PM
If you remember, they also voluntarily "withdrew" some dog food, I believe Instinct, a while ago.  The reason was "nutrient dense".  Excuse my ignorance but WTF does that mean?

I was feeding it at the time so I took it back.  When I gave the printed copy of the voluntary "withdrawal" to the rep at the pf store, she had not a clue what that meant.  Glad it wasn't just me.

I do tend to be a bit cynical.......if something is wrong with a pf, no matter how "nutrient dense" it may be, I will no longer feed it. Angry

At least NV is doing something about it when they find a problem so they do get some Brownie points for that but now I'm a little nervous about feeding NV.  Tongue

83  Dry and Wet Foods / Specific Brands of Dry or Wet Foods / Re: Party Animal Organic Dog Food on: June 14, 2009, 07:59:36 AM
I'm sure that's proprietary too!

Sometimes I wonder if it's the actual production facility & not the PFC that wants this info kept from the public.

I do remember an incident during the recalls when Therese was putting together her wonderful list of PFCs & where they're made.  One of the facilities that makes the food, not the PFC itself, contacted her & raised hell that they were listed on her website as the maker of a certain food........demanded she pull it off her website.  I guess my assumption was that it was the PFC that wanted this info to remain a deep, dark secret.  Perhaps there's an agreement that the PFC is not to disclose that info.  I just don't understand why this should be such a big secret. Huh
84  Dry and Wet Foods / Specific Brands of Dry or Wet Foods / Re: Party Animal Organic Dog Food on: June 14, 2009, 07:37:19 AM
I primarily home cook for my dog but I do use a very small amount of kibble & now & then I give her a little canned.......lately I've been giving her Party Animal.

I like the ingredients & Hannah seems to really like the taste of it.

Four paws up on this one!

Still trying to find out where this is canned.........hoping it isn't canned in a certain place that has had a lot of problems lately.........sent an email & will post if I hear anything back from them besides the information is proprietary.......GMAFB! Angry
85  Dry and Wet Foods / By Nature / Re: Where is it made? on: June 13, 2009, 12:03:50 PM
Does anyone know where Party Animal is canned?  Therese......any info?

It's fairly new & not on the PFL.  I emailed them late yesterday but that info is usually proprietary.  Cans look very similar to one I have here from Evangers......which is why I need to find out. Huh

86  Dogs / General Dog Health Discussion / Re: Why Dogs Chase Their Tails on: June 04, 2009, 09:06:23 AM
I have high cholesterol & I don't chase my tail.  Oh, wait a minute, I don't have a tail! Wink
87  Recall Related Information / Recall News / Re: Chemnutra and It's Owners Plead Guilty on: June 04, 2009, 09:02:48 AM
I got this in a newsletter this morn from Therese:  "ChemNutra, which imports ingredients from China to the U.S. for the feed and food industries, and the Millers were charged with 13 misdemeanor counts of introduction of adulterated food into interstate commerce, 13 misdemeanor counts of introduction of misbranded food into interstate commerce and one felony count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud."

If you aren't angry now, get angry.  Anything to do with adulterated food is a friggin misdemeanor & wire fraud is a felony?

GMAFB!  This is insanity.

Just goes to show just how much life is worth today......especially to our law makers. Angry

kaffe:

I doubt they'll get a long sentence.......I believe they know if they have a trial by jury, they'd hang them, especially if you get a few animal lovers on the panel.  I'm sure that's why they decided to cop a plea.

I'd love to see them do time but these evil doers never seem to get a lot of jail time like you or I would.  Amazing what a high-priced lawyer can do for you!  You know, the ones WE can't afford.

Actually, if they fed them food made w/their glutens, it would solve yet another problem:  how to get rid of all that toxic crap. Wink

Kisses to cato....... Kiss

Sentence:  10 yrs behind bars eating food made with their tainted glutens three times a day! Tongue

90  Recall Related Information / General Recall Discussion / Re: What's Killing Our Pets on: May 27, 2009, 09:02:07 AM
I think the problems with commercial food have been going on for a lot longer than anyone cares to admit.

A lot of disease & death in the past would never have been attributed to any kind of toxins in pet food.  I mean, who would ever think about that?  I hate to sound like a dummy but it's the last thing I would've thought of......I mean really!

Once the rolling recalls were in full swing, my mind wandered back to a lot of things that happened in the past.  Now I believe it's been going on for a very long time.  I just think, because they got away with it for so long, they got careless & allowed either a lot more or substances that they were unsure about (as to a dog or cat's reaction to it).  How sad to even be thinking this way.  Shows how much I trust them.....& I don't think I'm alone in my thinking.

I hate to think that any human being would put profits ahead of the health & welfare of other living things but now that our food has become unsafe, it certainly seems that they just don't care......about animals or other people.  This is just one person's opinion but it's a very scary thought.

I just hope they sleep well..... Tongue
