Dry and Wet Foods / Merrick / Re: Consider This Before Feeding Merrick
|

Thanx for that info, Bonkers......that's what I thought. I was told a while ago that they made all their products in their own facility which is why I felt the need to correct that earlier post. I think it's important to keep other pet parents informed not only of those foods that have made your fur baby sick but those that have worked well for them. Every little fur baby is different.......what's good for one is not necessarily good for another. However, it gives you a starting point & then you can decide on your own. Hey, what's fair is fair.......

Dry and Wet Foods / Fromm / Re: Fromm

Upon visiting Fromm's website today I saw that there are no longer any canned dog or cat foods listed. There is a statement posted saying that they will be introducing there new line of canned foods in fall of 2009 or sooner. It also states that the new canned line of foods will all be made in the USA.
Bonkers: Thanks for that wonderful info. I wanted to try Fromm's but I refused to because I heard it was made in Thailand.......that was enough for me! Looking forward to their new line!

Dry and Wet Foods / Merrick / Re: Consider This Before Feeding Merrick

I know this is an old thread but I'd like to say a few words about Merrick if you don't mind........ I do know about the rendering plant (do you really think they are the only ones who use this in their pet food?) but I do want to clarify something posted earlier on this thread. I always thought Merrick made all their own food......somebody posted their canned was done by Menu. I looked it up on TPFL (thanks, Therese): * Their only brand is Merrick * No products made by Menu Foods * All Merrick foods, dry, canned, and treats are made in their own facility. * All ingredients are from the US * Products do not contain wheat gluten Not sure what's going on right now but I was under the impression that they did make their own food. I have had Hannah on their canned (like Grammy's Pot Pie & Turducken........I recently purchased the cans of meat & water only), I've used BG dry a couple of times & I recently bought the little sample bags (dry) of Grammy's Pot Pie, Wilderness Blend & Turducken. She loves the GPP (loves the canned too), haven't opened others yet. So far, Hannah likes all the canned & dry that I've given to her & I haven't seen any problems at all. Far be it from me to defend any PFC........but if Hannah likes something & does well on it, I feel it's only fair to let people know. Plus, many people may stay away from the canned because they think Menu cans for them........I honestly don't know for sure but I think that's incorrect. Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't mind.......

Miscellaneous / General chit chat / UPS Humor

For those who haven't seen this posted somewhere (by me, of course), I wanted to post it here. This has to be one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. I wasn't sure where to post it but here goes:
Remember it takes a college degree to fly a plane, but only a high school diploma to fix one; a reassurance to those of us who fly routinely in our jobs.
After every flight, UPS pilots fill out a form, called a 'gripe sheet,' which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight.
Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by UPS ' pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers.
By the way, UPS is the only major airline that has never, ever, had an accident.
P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement. S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.
P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough. S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.
P: Something loose in cockpit S: Something tightened in cockpit
P: Dead bugs on windshield. S: Live bugs on back-order.
P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent. S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.
P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear. S: Evidence removed.
P: DME volume unbelievably loud. S: DME volume set to more believable level.
P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick. S: That's what friction locks are for.
P: IFF inoperative in OFF mode. S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.
P: Suspected crack in windshield. S: Suspect you're right.
P: Number 3 engine missing. S: Engine found on right wing after brief search
P: Aircraft handles funny. (I love this one!) S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right and be serious.
P: Target radar hums. S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.
P: Mouse in cockpit. S: Cat installed.
And the best one for last...
P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer. S: Took hammer away from midget.

Dry and Wet Foods / Evangers / Re: Evanger's FDA Problems

Just an FYI......I know I started this on another thread so......yes, I am trying to confuse you! I just sent a second request to Party Animal asking who cans their food & I'm afraid I wrote it before I finished my first cup of coffee so I was not my usual cheery self....... Because the cans are the same size & shape & the stamp on the bottom looks identical to the couple of cans I have left of Evangers, I felt the need to inquire. Inquiring minds want to know.........isn't that somebody's slogan? If that doesn't elicit a response, I guess my next thing is to call & ask them. I think the fact that they didn't respond to the first email speaks for itself, don't you?

Dogs / Dog Food Recipes / Miss Hannah's Turkey Stew
|
on: June 20, 2009, 03:40:12 PM
|
Yesterday, I decided to make up a turkey stew........I have to tell you that I did sneak a few tastes & it was really good. I had two frozen turkey drumsticks that I threw into a big pot, cut up celery, carrots & a yam (next time I'll put that in later as it was pretty mushy), sprinkled a tad of garlic powder & parsley, threw in a can of chicken broth & added water. I simmered that on the stove for about 2-1/2 hrs & then added a white potato & let it simmer for a while longer. Turkey was falling off the bone so I knew it was done. I took the meat off the bone (you have to be very careful because there are a ton of tiny, sharp little bones), added some of the broth w/fresh water........voila, Miss Hannah's Turkey Stew. I didn't use the water because I left the skin on & it was very greasy (I know, once it's cold I can skim off fat but it sounded like too much trouble). The turkey & veggies were really yummy. Naturally, she liked it (she's like Mikey.......she likes anything)! I probably have enough for at least three days, otherwise I would put it in the freezer.

Recall Related Information / Recall News / Re: Chemnutra and It's Owners Plead Guilty

Just so you know, I'm in the process of writing to the court & give them a little bit of info on how the Millers have affected my life & that of my dog.
Thankfully, Hannah never got sick but a couple of times I had been feeding her something that was later recalled. My stress level was through the roof (I'm sure you can all relate to that statement). I did have to make a couple of vet visits to have her checked over thoroughly so it cost me financially & it certainly cost me in lost sleep. Then there were the days & days of research & trying to get info on the recall of the week. I believe the letters go to the court clerk & he will probably decide what the judge sees (don't know that to be fact, just a guess). I want the judge to know that this not only affected people who lost their beloved fur kids but anyone who had a pet that they loved.
These letters should not be angry or to recommend sentencing, I personally think you would do more good to send a nice letter telling the court how this has affected you personally.
If anyone wants to see my letter, I'll be happy to PM it to you or I suppose I could post it if anyone wants me to.......it's really not all that interesting.
I think if the court got a lot of letters about how the Millers & their toxic imports affected peoples' lives, maybe they would get more than a slap on the wrist.
I have info on who to write to but will not post that publicly. I will PM it to you if you're interested in sending off a letter.

I'd love to seem them pay a really huge fine & spend the two years in prison. However, they can afford lawyers that you & I can't.......therefore, they'll get off with a slap on the wrist & a very small fine.
I think they should figure out how much they made on the toxic glutens that they imported & that should be their fine........millions, I'm sure.
But I'm just a hysterical pet owner.......I don't know jack.......GMAFB.
Send them away & take away all their profits......please!
