Recall Related Information / General Recall Discussion / Re: HAS EVERYONE HAD ENOUGH ????

I can certainly relate, Mary! I normally spend quite a bit of time in front of the computer, but lately I pretty much live here. My dogs have been complaining a bit too, but just a little while ago we all went for a walk, which all of us needed!
Like you, I don't think the recall is going to 'blow over.' I think it's going to change the way a lot of people feed their pets.
And yes, I have had enough!!! And for now, I'm going to go be a couch potato with my dogs and try to find something good on TV.

I just talked with Jennfer Freeman at Natural Balance, who informed me that their website has just been updated with new info. She said they don't know what the problem is yet, but as a precaution, they are telling people not to feed the Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Foods. She said they have not had any new complaints - the number stands at about 7 complaints. From the their website: NOTICE: We are receiving consumer complaints regarding the Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Foods. We do not know what is wrong with the food at this time, but we have heard that animals are vomiting and experiencing kidney problems. Please discontinue feeding all Venison and Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, and Venison and Green Pea Dry Cat Food. We are working closely with the FDA. We will update this website today, as more information comes available.

You know, I thought about separating it out with wet vs. dry...cat vs. dog but I think that would be breaking it down just a bit too far. I know a lot of people have cats and dogs and feed wet and dry. I do agree though that people are better off to mention specifically what they're feeding.

Dry and Wet Foods / Natural Balance / Natural Balance pulls venison dog formula 4/15/07

According to Itchmo: Natural Balance Pulling Venison Dry Dog Formula Itchmo has confirmed an email from Natural Balance that they are removing two products from sale: * Venison and Brown Rice Dry Dog Formula * Venison and Green Pea Dry Dog Formula This products do not contain wheat gluten. No deaths or serious illnesses have been reported and no recall warning has been issued. The warning applies only to products sold in the last week, according to Natural Balance. Please know that at this time we are removing this product from the shelves, as we have had some phone calls indicating gastric upset after eating this formula. At this time, we are unsure if this could just be a particular batch problem, or simply customers switching diets too fast. However, in the meantime while we are looking further into this matter, we are not recommending to feed this formula, and are suggesting to feed our Potato and Duck or Sweet Potato and Fish Dry Dog Formula. NOTE: I've emailed my contact at Natural Balance and am following up myself to verify.

You know, Mary, I've wondered about that myself. I have one cat and I use the clumping litter too. I'd be very interested to know what you might be able to find out. I wonder too, what issues there might be with the litter that doesn't clump. That's manufactured too so I'd think there may be some issues with that as well. I imagine pretty much anything we might use would have some issues. Good, old fashioned dirt is probably the safest...but I'm not about to let my Tequila be an outdoor cat!

Recall Related Information / General Recall Discussion / Re: Evanger's NOT on recall

I found the quote she was talking about...it was under Artemis, and was a direct quote from the company. I'm not sure about the confusion but I changed it to this:
No products made by Menu Foods. Cans are manufactured by Evanger’s in Wheeling, IL
Hopefully that's what she was referring to.
