1  Dry and Wet Foods / Nature's Variety / Re: Canned on: May 10, 2007, 12:02:16 PM
I have used the frozen raw for my cats and they liked it for awhile and then seemed to tire of it.   I gave the leftovers to my dogs and they wolfed it down so it might be worth a try for your puppy.

Blue Seal called me back and it is made by Evangers in IL, so I have tried a few cans.   It is nice and meaty without all the vegetables like other manufacturers but my kitties aren't just scarfing it down either.   I think it is too different than what they are used to.

A person from Blue Seal called me back and told me that By Natures Organics is made by Evangers in IL.   He said that they are not readily disclosing this because of business/competitors reasons not because they are hiding anything.  He said that management is currently considering publically disclosing it soon.

So, I opened my cases and have tried a couple cans.  It has a nice meaty consistency and smell but my kitties aren't going head over heals for it except my little 7 week old foster kittens.   It may just be too different for my oldsters who have been used to the creamy Wellness - they like it very soupy.
At least I have an alternative now.

My e-mail was bounced back as "mailbox full" when I sent it asking where the canned was made.  So, I called again today and got thru.  The person was very vaque and said it was made by "one of their partners" in the US.  I said I couldn't believe he didn't know which one as there apparently aren't that many.  I said it was clearly stated that the Blue Seal was made at Menu foods, but the website conveniently doesn't say where By Natures is made.   I said a lot of people are wanting to know this before they order and he said that their food is flying off the shelves even without people knowing that info.    SO, beware buyers.   It seems very fishy that he couldn't tell me who makes their canned By Natures products.   Please stop buying this food until they disclose that info, otherwise, they apparently think hiding the information is working just fine!!!  Angry

I do need a low phosphorus dry food for my seniors if anyone has suggestions.  I am switching them right now from Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul  to California Natural and they seem to like it.   I checked my CRF Yahoo group files and it said that CN was fairly low in phos but I didn't actually check with the company yet.   If someone knows, I would appreciate it.

I just picked up a bag and will give it a try.  I talked to another girl who has been using it for a couple of weeks and said she is already seeing a big improvement in their coats.  I don't know what she was using before.

I picked up some of the same and all my cats loved it and I didn't see anything wrong with it.   I gave it to a mom with 4 kittens I am fostering plus my seniors too and they all gave it a thumbs up.    I have tried some of the canned tuna food in the past and thought it was too watery for the high price, but I liked the consistency of the chicken/turkey/fish.   I also like that it is not made by Menu foods, it is made by the company that makes the Merrick food.

I also tried calling them and got a "canned" (pun intented) message that states their food is not part of the recall.........

I just ordered 2 cases of this canned food because I was using Wellness and wanted to get away from Menu Foods/ANI made brands but I am now concerned.   by Nature's website says that their Blue Seal brand is made at Menu Foods but they conveniently don't say where By Natures is made - just say it doesn't have wheat products.  I would deduce that if their other canned food is made by Menu, then by Nature's must be too since it's obvious they don't make their own.   Sad

I e-mailed them but have gotten no reply.  Does anyone know?
