1  Human Food Recalls & Other Issues / General Discusson & Concerns about Human Foods / Re: Human food supply on: May 07, 2007, 11:20:06 AM
buying locally raised food is great for so many reasons. small local farmers are much less likely to use tainted, dangerous products that corporate farms (perdue, etc.) use--@ our local farmer's market i saw a lot of signs saying that the meat from various farmers was raised on corn that the farmers grew themselves.

plus buying local supports your local community, & the food is fresher b/c it hasn't flown thousands of miles (the average journey of a piece of supermarket produce is something like 1400 miles). which also cuts down on fuel costs needed to ship it.

all that for food that is safer & tastier!
2  Cats / Cat Food Recipes / Re: Home made diet on: May 03, 2007, 03:49:12 PM
the recipe from catnutrition.org is from a vet, iirc.

obviously vets will disagree on what's healthy for a pet. but i'm not inclined to be overly trustworthy of vets, given how much they continue to push dreck like science diet.

catinfo.org was really helpful for me, too, in explaining certain dietary requirements (& why dry food & grains are bad for cats, for example). i'll go check out those links you posted. thanks.

dry food is bad for cats. see catinfo.org for why.

catinfo.org & catnutrition.org both have raw recipes that are supposed to be really good.

also you can do a search on yahoo for yahoogroups dealing w/raw cats.

i'm a veg who's also considering raw, & i agree that lots of veg*ns do it for their pets b/c they're already aware of health issues regarding food.

but i really don't want to see this thread descend into meat eaters coming in & either bashing veg*ns, or defending their diets, or hostility flying back & forth from all sides, either. let's just be careful. Smiley
