1  Dry and Wet Foods / Pinnacle / Re: What about Pinnacle?? on: August 30, 2007, 03:38:08 PM
So, I have tried feeding my cats with Pinnacle Peak Protein Dry Formula.  Both like it and have no adverse effect.

BTW, Pinnacle has changed the Phosphorus % from .85% to 1.10%.  I just checked their web site.
2  Dry and Wet Foods / Wellness & Old Mother Hubbard / Re: Strictly Wellness on: June 22, 2007, 10:59:46 AM
Yes, the Wellness Core does have higher Phosphorus content, but the Wellness Indoor is relatively low (0.78%).   The next lowest for Wellness dry is the Wellness Salmon (.93%)
3  Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / Re: Lump on my cats side on: June 15, 2007, 07:40:31 PM
yeah, I found a lump on the side of my older cat and it's the fatty tumor.  My vet said the same thing and it has not grown in size.. we discovered this for about 4 years now.
4  Dry and Wet Foods / Pinnacle / Re: What about Pinnacle?? on: June 03, 2007, 12:32:44 PM
I am also curious about Pinnacle's dry and wet food feedback.  The Pinnacle Feline Peak Formula as relatively low phosphorus (.85%) for CRF cats even the protein level is 42%.  The wet food all seem to have low phosphorus level.  So, on paper, they look like suitable food especially for cats with kidney issues.

Anyone has any experience/concern with the dry and/or wet food?
5  Dry and Wet Foods / Solid Gold / Re: Solid Gold Katz-N-Flocken on: May 13, 2007, 07:41:08 PM
Regarding phosphorus contents... other than the veterinary renal diets (< 0.79%), California Natural has the lowest phosphorus content (.79%) I have found so far.  The CN Herring formula has like 1.23% , which I think is high if you are looking for low phosphorus content dry food.  I have seen contents level in commerial cat dry food ranges from .79% - 1.46%.

A few brands that I have found which has lower phosphorus (<.95%):
- California Natural Chicken and Rice Cat Dry (.79%)
- Fromm 4-star Salmon Cat Dry (0.80%)
- Fromm Senior Gold Cat Dry (0.80%)
- Innova Reduced Fat Cat Dry (.95%)
- Life Abundance Cat Dry (.80%)
- Wysong's Geriatrx Cat Dry (~.80% or so, but I haven't confirmed this with the company)

Based on availability in my area (Dallas), I use Fromm's 4-star Salmon and also try to introduce my cats to California Natural Chicken and Rice.
6  Dry and Wet Foods / Fromm / Re: Fromm? on: May 08, 2007, 11:07:45 AM
I have switched my cats to Fromm's 4-star nutrition Salmon for about 2 weeks now.  So far so good.  They like it.  I feed them with Wellness can foods also.  I also tried to introduce the California Natural Chicken and rice to my cats.  They prefer the Fromm's, doesn't really want the California Natural.  They always pick Fromms Salmon if both food are put side by side.

I like both products as both are quality food as far as dry food goes, and the phosphorus level is relatively low (Fromm .8%, CN .79%)

Thankyou! This is very useful information!
8  Dry and Wet Foods / Solid Gold / Re: Solid Gold Katz-N-Flocken on: April 30, 2007, 12:13:11 AM
I am looking around for quality dry food that has low phosphorus, low sodium and moderate protein (for older cat with kidney "wear and tear").  I checked out Solid Gold Katz-N-Flocken.  I sent an email to the company for info and a few days later, they forwarded me the nutritional facts for the Solid Gold Katz-n-Flocken Cat Food.  To my surprise, the phosphorus % (1.8%) is the highest % I have found doing my cat food comparision.

9  Dry and Wet Foods / Fromm / Re: Fromm? on: April 29, 2007, 11:52:46 PM
I have switched both of my cats to have Fromm 4-star nutritionals Salmon Dry cat food less than a week ago.  They like it immediately and they seem to be good so far.  The reason I chose this is because one of my cats are older and need to have something that's easier on the kidney.  I am looking for quality dry food that has low phosphorus, low sodium and moderate protein.  When I did my research, the web site claimed that the phosphorus is .80%.  I looked just now to type this email, and noticed that the web site has changed to 1.0%.  .08% is one of the lowest ones I have identified so far other than California Naturals (.79% according to its web site).  The batch I got has the expiration date of 2/13/08.  I am still in a search to see if 1.0% of phosphorus level is suitable for older cats with "wear and tear" on kidney.

If anyone knows of other cat food that has low phosphorus level, please share your thoughts.
10  Dry and Wet Foods / California Natural / Re: Chicken & brown rice dry cat food on: April 26, 2007, 11:18:53 PM
Thanks Geff from tunning me onto Cal Natural.  The food seems very food compare with others.  The only concern I have is that my older cat had some blood work done last month (both cat had a can of recalled food a month ago but turned out ok).  The vet said the result shows that his kidney has some "wear and tear" and he has high chorlestrol.  He suggested that I keep him on senior food or a low protein diet.  I am trying to determine if Cal Natural can be used for a 13 1/2 year old cat with this condition.  I started only considering senior food - but have expanded this to other food that maybe ok too.  Any thoughts on this?

11  Dry and Wet Foods / Fromm / Re: Fromm? on: April 26, 2007, 11:04:49 PM
I have started to feed my cats Fromm's Salmon yesterday .  So far, they seem to like it.  I tried feeding them with Fedidae Platinum before I tried Fromm's.  My younger cat hardly wanted to eat it.  My older cat would eat it, but not thrilled.  So far, Fromm Salmon seems to be good. We will see.
12  Dry and Wet Foods / Natural Balance / Re: Natural Balance Recall on: April 25, 2007, 04:24:09 PM
Thanks Geff...  yes, I agree with you.  I am considering other brands like Fromm Mature Gold, Innova Reduced Fat..
13  Dry and Wet Foods / Blue Buffalo / Re: I think I'm going to stick with Blue Buffalo cat foods on: April 25, 2007, 09:27:31 AM
I have recently switched to Blue Buffalo Indoor Dry cat formula before Blue Buffalo had the recall on their kitten formula.  I bought a small bag of the Indoor dry formula to see if my cats would like them.  They love it.  My problem now is if I trust that the Blue Buffalo Indoor Dry cat formula is safe to feed.

Pet parents out there, are you guys continuing to use Blue Buffalo's other dry formula? Or discontinuing the use?

14  Dry and Wet Foods / Natural Balance / Re: Natural Balance Recall on: April 25, 2007, 09:20:32 AM
I have switched to Natural Balance the week before they recalled the Vension wet and dry food.  I bought the Natural Balance Reduced Calorie Dry Cat food and my cats have eaten some before I learnt about the recall of the Vension & Green Pea formula.  My cats seems to be ok and they love the food.  I am still having a hard time finding cat dry food that are safe to eat and that they will eat it.

Has anyone feed the Natural Balance Reduced Calorie Dry Cat food?  Is this safe or NB may come by and say this is in the recall this also?
