Forum Issues / Suggestions for new boards / Re: New Board Suggestions

Happy Mother's Day Therese! THANK YOU for all your time, energy, accuracy, and dedication! an idea that came to me: what do you think of a board to post the responses people have gotten from companies?
i.e., since people are writing to companies for info: when/IF we receive their response, we could copy/paste it here. hopefully without discussion so it's easier to sort through.
for example, someone sent a letter to a supplement company and received, imo, an evasive letter that didn't address the letter's concerns. if we post only our letter and the company responses (dated) in a separate board, especially without discussion, it might be easier for each person to make their own conclusion with what step they want to take next with that particular company. it would be better than people posting their interpretation of a response.
would it be possible to somehow make a statement or if there is something in the software (i don't know computer tech) that would discourage editing, make the poster accountable, etc, anything so that only the poster is held liable... maybe the statement you've already made about liability is enough i also don't know legalities...
what do you think of having one thread for cat food, another for dog food, another for supplements, etc... and/or could we have a thread for each company, especially if their is no way of limiting discussion. thanks again! maria Disclaimer: BEFORE i get reactions: I believe discussions are GOOD. And, I believe, like everything, there is a time a place... when i'm trying to get "just the facts, please", it sometimes becomes difficult sorting thru the discussions; i get caught up reading and before i know it, it's 3 a.m.

Dry and Wet Foods / General Discussion about Dry and Wet Packaged Foods / labels
|
on: May 02, 2007, 04:17:55 AM
|
i learned recently via itchmo or thepetfoodlist.com/forums, as i understand it, that pet food companies (and who knows what other companies) only have to use ingredients listed on the label for a limited amount of time thru out the year (something like 3-6 months).
the rest of the time they can put whatever they want in our pet food…
does anyone have any info on this?
even more reason to go homemade.

okay. maybe its research burn out but i may have made a silly mistake! i like the company, very helpful and love the concept. my boys sadly didn't like the samples. i was so excited when they arrived in the mail! but i tried feeding this to my cats just mixed with water as directed... are we supposed to mix it with raw or some other food too? maria

lisa: i was so so excited when the samples came! i just knew that they would love this! i was so sad when the sample came and my boys wouldn't even come near it. i'm glad your canines like it. i didn't realize it would come in powder form. i thought it was going to be chunks of dehydrated meat...
i don't recall what specific suggestions were given. we talked on the phone for a long time. they have some other products that i was interested in that might help crf.
i recommend giving them a call. maybe they can give you some ideas on how to entice your kitties. or maybe their website has some info for you.
they are very helpful. please tell them maria at quitasi@yahoo.com sent you

Cats / General Cat Health Discussion / Re: Help for pet-food poisoned pets

mary kay: your welcome
i've been writing to pet food companies asking why they don't have food for cats with crf. crf is the number one killer of cats. many companies tend to have food for uti in cats...but the cranberries and other acidifying ingredients that help uti's aren't helpful for crf. i've also added in those emails that now more than ever with the survivors of this tragedy, we'll need more crf food available!
wysong has one food for crf that has good quality ingredients. i had originally crossed them off of my list because they are associated with menu. but now it doesn't matter where the food is made. and the majority of wysong's food is made in their own plants! they have dry kidney food for my boy, tano, who would starve himself rather than eat wet or raw. so now i will relook at selections i had originally crossed off the list...
quito is loving some raw food from whole foods (they grind up chicken backs, etc with bone and sell it in the pet food isle! ) anyway, quito loves it and tano wants to try it, comes by, keeps smelling it each time i give it to quito, licks his chops, but ..... nothing! i even put in some of his fish treat (some strange fish name, dehydrated treat) and he still won't touch it. i wish he'd just at least lick it, give it a chance! lol! he's my baby!
