Recall Related Information / General Recall Discussion / Re: What Carnivores eat

You make some good points. I don't think grains need to be eliminated from their diet. However, it seems the consensus is that is should be a small part of the diet, with protein from meat making up the majority.
The one thing I've noticed in reading a lot of the comments on these boards is that not all vets seem to be on the same page when it comes to animal nutrition. Makes me wonder how much they actually focus on that in school.

Dry and Wet Foods / Diamond / Chicken Soup for Cat Lover's dry food

I got a small sample bag of this from the wonderful natural pet food store, and my cats are really loving it. They have Blue Buffalo dry in a bowl downstairs, and Chicken Soup dry in the kitchen, and they seem to only be eating that now. They react a bit like it is a treat, so I may go get another small bag and see if the love continues.

I got a sample of this Friday, and it remains mostly uneaten in their bowl tonight (Sunday). On to the next, I guess.

Dry and Wet Foods / Merrick / Re: Merrick Canned Cat Food

I bought a can of Merrick's Thankgiving Dinner canned food for my cats. They completely lose their little minds when it's time to eat this stuff! They jump on the counter, walk around in circles, and start meowing like it's the only food they've had in days. They love it more than any food so far. I can't say it looks all that appealing, but they don't even leave the slightest little crumb on their plates when I feed them this.

Dry and Wet Foods / Blue Buffalo / Re: I think I'm going to stick with Blue Buffalo cat foods

Gary, if this is the case, and Blue Buffalo is purposely omitting an ingredient on their website because of bad press, that is quite upsetting. I sent them an email asking to explain the discrepancy between the cans and the website, but have not heard back yet. I may have to call them if I don't get an answer.

I can't figure out if they actually use MENADIONE in their cat food still or not. The cans I have list it, but I don't see it on the website. I have sent them an email asking if this is an ingredient, but haven't heard back yet. I'm not really sure at this point how concerned I should be about this ingredient to begin with, but if they are purposely not disclosing an ingredient on their website because it got bad press, then I have a real problem with that.

Cats / Cat Nutrition / Too much Vitamin D in some foods?
|
on: April 11, 2007, 07:48:18 PM
|
|
I've been reading so much on pet foods lately that I can't remember half of what I've seen, but I know somewhere someone was saying there may be a separate issue with pet foods having too much Vitamin D in them? That this was possibly also causing pet deaths? Does anyone have any other information on this, or was this just chatter on one of the boards?

I want to try them, but that whole rendering plant thing has me a bit nervous. I may give them a shot though based on your comments (if I can find this brand in town anywhere that is!)
