I guess I can wait until I run low on Complete before making that decision. I probably have a couple weeks worth left, though. (That 2.8lb bag goes a long way, even with two cats.)

I've been surprised at how far the rather small (both 2.8 and 5 lb) Wellness bags go. And we have five cats. Three of our cats do eat a meal of Wellness canned everyday also, so I'm sure that helps.

I just started Andy on Wellness Complete Health, but he's having loose stools from it after having been on California Natural for years.  I'm transitioning slowly so we'll see what happens.  I'm hoping his gut will settle down after a few days, but I had this issue some time ago when I tried to put him on it before I found out about CN.

I've read other reports of cats having a difficult time transitioning from Cal Nat to Wellness.

I was not referring to any posters in particular and am very grateful that this was publicized.  As a result, I am looking for another food.  However, that thread has taken on a magnitude and popularity the likes of which I have never seen, and has become like an entire movement which so many people have jumped into, unlike any other pet foods issues I have seen, even the worst of them.
Apparently, you forget the "menadione in Blue Buffalo" stampede.

The problem is obviously these companies (Natura in particular) paint themselves in such angelic light, as if they can do no wrong. Then when something does go wrong, and it's handled so poorly, the whole thing turns into a sort of crusade. What's so sad is that Natura could have avoided this on nearly every level, but have instead dropped the proverbial ball every single time it has landed in their court.

Supposedly, it's only some of the vitamins in Wellness that come from China. For one, I believe taurine is only manufactured in China, so any food with added taurine has Chinese ingredients. At least that's my understanding.

Below if post from JJ at the Itchmo forums:

JJ says
"Spoke with a pleasant customer service rep at Wellness today regarding the new CORE food-the regular and low fat. I only have a reservation on the low fat as far as the fish but he said it is from the atlantic, caught wild and not from any fish farm. He also told me that any pet food company that tells you every vitamin, mineral, etc is 100% from the U.S. is lying and they want to be as honest and upfront with everyone as they know this is our children and respect that. Also that 1-2% does come from all different countries-depends on where it was grown. They do not use premix vitamins either. Each vitamin or mineral, etc is added on its own, not already mixed together."

Those dry prices aren't so bad, but that 3 oz can price is pretty dang high.

Garypen,
No, no not at all. They aren't "black specs". It's hard to explain, but you'll see when you get the food. The Indoor Health simply isn't uniform in color. But all the bags I've used have looked the same. I was just telling you so you wouldn't be surprised by the appearance.
I didn't think it was actually bad. I was just kidding about the whole black speck thing. I'm not too worried!  Grin

That's cool! I was afraid you'd misinturpreted what I posted.

Garypen,
Indoor Health is what we use. Just a forewarning, the Indoor Health looks different then the others. It's a lighter color (sorta khaki), and some peices will have dark brown splotches (some more than others). I've spoken to others who use this and have said theirs is the same way, and I spoke to someone from Wellness who told me that is the way it normally looks. I just know that several people (myself included), were a bit alarmed when first seeing this.

himimom,
Wellness has changed all their cat forumals recently, which I'm sure you know. Do you know what type they are sending you a sample of?

Garypen,
You know, since Wellness openly admitted to using Menu for canned food after the recalls started, but didn't say anything about ANI once those recalls started, maybe they don't use ANI. Who knows? All I know is that most everyone I have spoken with that uses Wellness has been pleased with it. I of course knock on wood and say a prayer at the same time that I type this.

Davis,
I'm not sure if anyone knows for sure who makes Wellness dry varieties. I've read that some have said that some of the dry is made by American Nutrition, but I've never seen anything confirming this. I do know that Wellness claims that they keep there own personell on hand to monitor the creation process of their foods. But exactly where they are made, I don't know.

As far as ingredients go, Wellness has said that they source everything from the USA that they can. But some vitamins must come from Asian countries, as that's the only place to get them. There was a post on Itchmo a while back, where someone had contacted Wellness about this and the reply said that any company claiming that everything is 100% from the USA is lying, and they want to be upfront about things like this. They have also told me and others that the vitamins are added seperately, not as a premix (like Natura foods).

Garypen,
I agree concerning the Wellness cat kibble, it's totally different than other kibbles. There's none of the grainyness or crumbs falling off. And it generally smells better than other cat foods. The appearance is almost like rabbit food pellets.

I buy Wellness at a specialty store in Mid-Missouri. The only food they sell is higher end varieties. It's sort of a boutique-style store, so the prices reflect that. But I pay the prices since they're the only store anywhere near me (still 30 miles away) that sells the food I want.

What size small bag did you buy? The place where I buy Wellness Indoor (the only place near me that sells it), it costs about $16 for a 2.8 lb bag and $19 for 5lb bag. I don't know what the small sample bag costs. The cans are $1.19 for the smaller and around $3.50 for the bigger. It sounds like your shop has much better prices.

One of our five has hairball issues, and he tends to do this same thing from time to time. Hopefully your kitty is okay, and says that way.

Ashgate,
I'd read through the whole thing on Itchmo before completely freaking out. It still seems that there are plenty of people whose pets are doing great on Innova foods. I personally don't feed Innova, so I can't offer my view.
