1  Dry and Wet Foods / Wellness & Old Mother Hubbard / Problems with Wellness canned? on: December 21, 2007, 11:35:03 AM
Some people on Itchmo have been reporting problems with Wellness canned (mainly varieties with turkey). The problems have ranged from refusal of food, to vomiting, to loose stool. I was just wondering if anyone here has had any problems?

Um, if you KNOW the truth and the answer, then why are you asking?

Orijen and Wellness are both good, quality foods. Hill's is not. Those are things I can tell you for sure.

I do believe it's good quality stuff, and I've thought about trying it again now that my cats are growing used to wet food. When we first tried it they were all dry addicts.

I tried some of this for my cats a while back. They were really interested in it in the dry form, but I once I followed the directions and added water, they wanted nothing to do with it. I will admit it smells good, like human food, but the texture is very different.

I know there have been some complaints about the fact that the company markets the food as "raw", but the meat has been cooked. It's the veggies that were added raw. I haven't heard of anyone's pets having any trouble on the food, though.

Garypen,
The Indoor is the dry that my five cats are eating also, just to let you know.

Garypen,
I can honestly say that I've never tried to mash up my cats with a fork. I think if I tried I'd probably lose an arm.

By the way, which dry formula are you feeding?

Also, I think you're right about the Wellness cans being made at the SD facility. I also looked up the documents about Mars buying the plant from Menu. It looks like Mars doesn't trust Menu anymore, so they simply ended their business with them and bought the plant where their (Mars) higher end food (Royal Canin and Nutro) is made. I don't know if this is a good thing for Wellness, but I certainly don't think it's bad news. If you'd like to see the article, let me know and I'll try to find the link again.

Garypen,
So your cats don't have a "nice fluffy texture"?  Wink

I've also noticed the "fluffy" texture of the Wellness canned. It's different than other canned foods I've seen. Most of the others I've seen have a sort of pastey quality to them. The Wellness also smells better, to me at least. The chicken smells like canned chicken, and the chicken & herring smells like fish (not in a bad way). Other (cheap) canned foods have always smelled horrible to my nose.

catmom5,
Keep us posted on how CJ's doing.

catmom5,
CJ's the one with ARF and IBD, correct? I remember you saying you were going to try Eagle Pack in an earlier post. Did you try it and did it work out at all?
12  Dry and Wet Foods / Canidae / Canidae Responds to Acetaminophen tests on: September 05, 2007, 12:42:43 PM
Canidae Responds:

Surprisingly they aren't really making excuses or denying the accusations. And they responded much more promptly than Natura did. I just wonder what labs they are sending the food to.

As far as I know, my five kitties are still okay with Wellness (Indoor Health dry and various grain-free cans). I pray daily  that it stays that way.

When is this going to end?

That's the million-dollar question. There's almost no limit to what I would give to feel 100% safe feeding my cats again.
